Episode 99: A Bitter Parting
I apologize for the delay in getting this posted. This is my humble contribution, and I hope it’s half as entertaining as all of the other summaries posted before.

We start off with a recap of previous episodes: the arrival of Sara to meet Yuuri and company, Gerard warning Sara that stopping him wasn’t the end of his troubles, Sara taking the arrow in the chest, complete with a blip of Lanzhil leaping up from his seat to demand which idiot fired the arrow and Yuuri, enraged by the sight of the bleeding and unconscious Sara in his arms, going into Maou-mode. Janus takes note of Yuuri’s power.
Moving forward with the story, we find our heroes back in the suite, with Yuuri unconscious in bed and his entourage keeping watch. Not that anyone else in the room isn't concerned, Wolfram and Gunter are even more so…
Murata attempts to reassure Wolfram that Yuuri merely overused his power a little. Understatement much?
Even Yozak noted that this situation was different and asks the ¥6.4 million question: How’s Sara? Aside from the arrow missing his heart by a hair, no one seems to know.
Wolfram doesn’t seem so much annoyed now as he is concerned over the matter at hand, the injury of Sara for Yuuri’s sake. Conrad for some reason doesn’t seem convinced of it being quite that simple.
Cut to Sara’s room, where Berias watches over the still unconscious monarch.
Title: A Bitter Parting
Cut back to a close-up of Sara’s bandaged chest. Berias goes about the task of healing Sara’s wounds.
Hark! We see hand movement!
Berias continues with his task until he collapses, then Sara awakens.
Meanwhile, cut back to Yuuri , who too awakens. Wolfram is relieved Yuuri’s come to, but Gunter even more so.
Gunter, please contain your excitement, okies?
Now that Yuuri’s awake and has confirmed to Murata he has his wits about him, Conrad asks how he’s feeling. Yuuri gives Conrad part of an answer then immediately asks about Sara.
Wolfram seems a bit crestfallen. Sara, Sara, Sara! [/Jan Brady]
Murata reports Sara’s fine, but Yuuri is Mr. Missouri; he wants to see for himself. Gunter stops him from leaving the bed for the sake of his health, but Yuuri insists he must rush to his lover’s friend’s side.
Conrad tells Yuuri that Sara’s resting and to wait while he goes to check on Sara’s condition. Conrad asks Wolfram to look after Yuuri in his absence. Just look at Wolfram. “Humph! Need you ask?”
Cut back to Sara’s room, where he commends Berias for what he’s done. Berias doesn’t seem to be comforted much by that. Before either can continue, there is a knock at the door.
Ah, it’s Conrad, asking how Sara is doing. Berias tells him Sara’s awake, and how’s Yuuri? Fine but worried about Sara and wanting to see him.
Berias pauses before telling Conrad it would be okay later and it’s a date. Conrad states that Berias must be worried as well, and Berias is all poker faced about it.
Conrad heads off to Yuuri’s room, and as Berias turns and heads back into Sara’s room, Conrad turns back briefly. Seems he highly suspects what really happened.
Suspicious Conrad is suspicious.
Cut to later, and Conrad returns with Yuuri and company. Once at Sara’s bedside, Yuuri grasps his hands and apologizes to Sara for him having taken the arrow. (Yuuri would probably apologize if the world ran out of air - er, wait, wrong character and show!)
Sara, on the other hand, insists Yuuri saved him. Big Shimaron has tucked tail and retreated after the incident, and Yuuri should now leave while it is dark. Sara has seen to the arrangements.
Yuuri doesn’t want to leave the side of his beloved friend, but even Murata agrees things could go downhill if they remained in Small Shimaron.
Yuuri wants to debate the issue, but Sara informs him change is a-coming and that it’s best he not be in Small Shimaron if things take a turn for the worse, not just for Yuuri’s sake but also for Sara himself.
Yuuri continues to express his reluctance. “Sara…” Aww… look at him pout!
Cut to the scene where Lanzhil and company are traveling back home by horseback. Lanzhil expresses his displeasure that no one’s found the dope who fired the arrow. He orders that a messenger be sent back to Small Shimaron; he wants to know where Sara stands.
“'Is he or is he not my baby ally?’ Ask him that, will ya?”
Janus asks Lanzhil if he could join the messengers, and Lanzhil tells him, “Dowhatchalike.” Janus didn’t have to ask twice and pulls away to join them.
As Janus and the messengers head to Small Shimaron, Lanzhil mutters about Sara’s plotting and how neither he nor the Maou will get away. “Blasted kids!”
Cut to the scene where Berias and one of the Small Shimaron guards are seeing our heroes onto the ship. All are on board save for Conrad, who is giving Yuuri a piggyback ride onto the ship. Yuuri insists he’s a big boy and is okay to walk; Conrad insists otherwise and tells him to be quiet.
Once on board, Conrad puts Yuuri down, and they join Wolfram and Murata in gazing upon the shore of Small Shimaron. He remains particularly apologetic to Sara for having to leave him.
Conrad and Berias exchange (knowing?) gazes before the ship heads off into the night. “I know what you did out there.”
“Oh, do you now? Can’t prove anything.”
Cut to the next morning at Small Shimaron. Berias enters Sara’s room, and when asked about Yuuri, informs Sara he saw Yuuri off safely.
A guilt-stricken Berias kneels at Sara’s bedside, and when asked what was wrong, asks Sara for forgiveness. Sara insists he did as he should have done. And what was it Berias did?
Ah yes, he shot that arrow!
And Berias is particularly pained about having done so. You always hurt the one you love, the one you shouldn’t hurt at all...
Sara assures Berias this action has brought the situation between Shin Makoku and Big Shimaron to a head, and as a benefit, Sara now has Yuuri as a boyfriend. Therefore, Berias has done well. Note how giddy Sara looks here.
Berias refuses to be comforted and asks Sara why he didn’t use his own power to influence Yuuri to do his bidding instead of putting himself in harm’s way.
Sara tells Berias it was because it was interesting and muses that Yuuri has captured his interest very much.
Cut to commercial.
After the commercial break, we return to our heroes, who are now at sea. When asked, Yuuri informs everyone he’s feeling better but that Wolfram isn’t doing so hot.
Wolfram does his best to snap back a reply at the risk of losing his lunch and almost fails.
“Shaddap... Oof!”
Amused Yuuri is amused.
Yuuri apologizes for ruining the strategies set by everyone else, and everyone else forgives him, but Murata suggests he restrain his power a bit and that surrendering to rage is dangerous.
Yuuri agrees, and his thoughts turn to Sara once again. All I do is think of you, day and night that's all I do...
Back in Small Shimaron, Berias continues to heal Sara, who insists he’s done enough and shouldn’t risk collapsing again.
A guard enters and announces the arrival of the messengers from Big Shimaron.
Cut to the throne room where Sara and Berias await the entry of the messengers.
Janus seems to be paying close attention to Sara. Remember the orders given by the double secret boss lady?
The messengers cut to the chase, demanding to know of the Maou’s whereabouts and why the Maou was in Small Shimaron.
Sara informs the messengers the Maou threatened him into betraying Big Shimaron and allying with Shin Makoku. The messengers seem unconvinced, and Sara insists the story is true: he invited the Maou with the hopes of turning him over to Big Shimaron.
“And do you expect us to believe that?!” The messengers remain unconvinced. Again, Sara insists what went down is all the Maou’s doing and sets out to “convince” them of this, adding that his allegiance remains with Big Shimaron.
“Look into my eyes? What do you see?”
Note that Janus is unaffected and is taking all this in.
After their brains have turned to mush, they conclude the Mazoku are engaged in dirty play and will report back to Lanzhil with everything Sara has told them. “Damned dirty Mazoku! We’ll get them yet!”
Sara’s concluded his work is done - that is until he looks up and sees Janus still standing there. He immediately concludes, since Janus wasn’t affected by his power, that he, too, is a magic user. Impressed with this, Sara promptly invites Janus to join him as he takes over the world, and Janus politely declines.
Sara presses the matter, stating that Janus’ allegiance isn’t with Big Shimaron and that his marching orders aren’t coming from Lanzhil after all.
Janus looks like he’d been hit with an arrow himself. Good thing he’s not looking up at Sara.
At this point, Sara decides to abort his recruitment effort and asks Berias to show Janus out.
On the way out, Janus makes small talk over who and what Berias is, hinting about the skilled use of a bow. If Janus was trying to get Berias to rise to the bait, it was utter fail; Berias seems unfazed by the questioning. Whammy #1.
Deciding to press his luck further, Janus stops at the portrait of King Gilbert and muses how Sara looks nothing like Gilbert. Again, Berias says nothing. Ah, there’s Whammy #2!
Before Janus whammies out altogether, we cut to the scene of him riding off with the messengers, all under the watchful eye of Berias.
“I know what you did out there, too.”
We now go back to our heroes, who are edging closer to Shin Makoku waters. Gunter is enjoying the breeze on deck, Wolfram even less so.
Yozak tries to comfort Wolfram as best he can and turns to see Conrad going to the upper deck. “Ah, Captain! I wasn’t trying to cop a feel I swear!”
Conrad joins Murata on the upper deck and mentions the matter of the arrow. Murata affirms he holds the same suspicions but advises it would be best to not to tell Yuuri, especially since they hold no proof of who shot it nor of the motive. Murata adds he has a bad feeling about the situation and suspects that Yuuri would endure more pain and trouble for it.
Conrad declares he would continue to protect Yuuri nonetheless.
Murata wouldn’t have it any other way.
And that’s when the first cannonball hits, sending Murata into Conrad’s arms.
Weebles they're not as noted by Wolfram hitting the deck and Yuuri falling out of his bed.
Yuuri goes out onto the deck to find out what’s happening. Wolfram tries to shoo him back in as he should be resting, but who can rest with that racket?
As if we didn’t know this, but just to be sure, Big Shimaron’s naval ships come into view.
Murata seems impressed with their preparation. Yuuri seems unimpressed with Murata’s admiration.
Another cannonball hits, sending Yuuri into the arms of Conrad. That Conrad gets around, eh?
More incoming shots separate the two, and another strikes the mast.
Since Yuuri’s in the path of the falling mast and sail, this puts him in danger.
Conrad to the rescue… and they’re safe!
But it’s not over yet. Big Shimaron’s poised to commandeer the ship, but Conrad and company say, “Not so fast!” They’re not about to turn Yuuri over without a fight.
Just when they think they’re about to fight to the death, the reinforcements arrive.
Murata is pleased as punch. “Yes!”
Yuuri’s surprised, but Murata isn’t and had anticipated Big Shimaron’s actions.
“And that’s why I’m the Great Sage.”
Gwendal orders the troops to go after the Big Shimaron navy, who beats a hasty retreat.
This is much to the relief of Yuuri and company. “We’re saved!”
And now it’s over, and off into the sunset they sail.
Cut to the scene wherein Gwendal is briefed on what has transpired in Small Shimaron.
Wolfram reports that Sara took an arrow for Yuuri and therefore, formal ties between Shin Makoku and Small Shimaron should start quick, fast and in a hurry. Yozak doesn't think Wolfram's account of what happened is wrong, but there was more to it...
Conrad, when asked, thinks it wouldn't be a bad idea to wait.
Wolfram begs to differ, but Murata and even Gunter agree it’s too soon to go into that direction. After all, Small Shimaron has lots of issues to take care of from within.
Cut to scene of Yuuri gazing at the full moon from the deck, then to Small Shimaron as Sara gazes upon the same moon. Both look forward to the day when they can meet again.
Aww… Young love!
My thoughts:
- Plans at least to get Yuuri out of Small Shimaron and put Sara in the clear went off well, but not without a hitch here and there. And now that Big Shimaron’s navy has failed to capture the Maou, what will Lanzhil do? He’ll continue to plot for sure.
- The loose ends having been connected with twist ties, there’s a bigger picture looming. Janus has taken note of Yuuri and Sara and what both boys can do. How does this figure into what he’s been working on? Only time will tell.
- And while there are suspicions a-plenty on the table about the firing of the arrow, only Sara and Berias know the truth behind that. At least Sara got a test run of what Yuuri can do when enraged, even if he was out cold for it.
And that pretty much wraps it up. Thoughts? Comments? Rotten fruit for the host? ^_^;
