The business end of things:
1. Episodes can found
here under community lock for those of you (like me) don't have them already.
2. Please make liberal use of either the font="white" html coding or the subject line to alert potential spoilers. I'm sure I'm not the only one out there who is taking advantage of this rewatch to watch the third season for the first time.
3. As everyone is crediting their caps, I'd like to point that I take my own and that each thumbnail is hotlinked to a larger image for those not laboring under slow bandwidths.
4. Episode 84 will be hosted by
parsnip_chan (me) and will be posted in about 24 hours give or take of this post going up. Sorry for the delay to those who were waiting.
The Fun end of things!:
We open on a single cottage in the woods where three fairies have been working to raise a rather kind and somewhat rebellious young princess… Whoops. Wrong story.
Instead, cue ominous dropping of the plates and a decree stating that our young lady standing in the window is being picked up by the King of Francia, King Antoine Jean le Pierre the 12th. She even gets an honor escort!
And messenger/escort looks a bit like Conrart too… >.> So how come Lila and family seems so sad?
Obligatory title screen needs no thumbnail! Plus, the thumbnail would make little sense unless you can read the title XD

- Bad Omen Bird appears and up pops Yuuri surrounded by paperwork! Bad omen indeed… But is it because Gunter hasn't brought the tea and snacks Yuuri so readily assumes? Instead he has brought correspondence from the King of Francia which of course must be opened and read in the hall of thrones with his attendants, well… attending.
Where is everyone else anyways? Couldn't they have just saved everyone the trouble and done this in his office? I mean, not even the maids are in attendance! To bad Gunter doesn't get to show off to much as he reads King Antoine's letter because I adore the reading style. I forget which type of japanese theater it's predominant in (Noh?), but I fell in love with it after hearing it so often in
Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto.
And you have no idea how proud I am to remember how to spell that title after all these years XD
But back to the letter because apparently Yuuri's been invited to Antoine and Lila's wedding! And cue the mental jig because I remembered who Lila was. It's been a while since I watched the first two seasons ^^ After gaining Gwendal's approval to go, Yuuri frolics off thinking of wedding presents and I'm sure daydreaming of a lot less paperwork in his near future.
… and maybe a lot less Gunter in his near future as well. *winkwink*
Poor Wolfram, always seasick and what's this? Yuuri's bringing efee with him? Makes me think that he's planning on giving Antoine and Lila a wedding cake or something. But back to the main point. As Wolfram pukes his guts out, he also brings to light that sacred swords are being stolen recently. Strange and stranger…
Conrart stays ever vigilant and keeps watch out of the window. Apparently the castle is in a strange state, with no festive environment expected of a wedding. But all Wolfram can think about is the fact Antoine's keeping them waiting! (although that's not entirely fair to Wolfram as he didn't realize the lack of festivities until after he complained).

Apparently, Antoine's managed to mislay a national treasure, the 'First Sword' which is a symbol of office (naturally). Antoine is naturally upset as this means he can't marry Lila. Poor boy.
Oh! Oh! Look at Conrart's expression as Lila flutters into the throne room in her wedding gown! Something tells me he's either shocked at seeing Lila in a dress, or he's been more influenced by Western Culture then he'd ever admit that the groom is seeing the bride in her wedding gown before the wedding.
Or that's just me being silly XD
And y'know, looking at Lila's eyes all done up, I can't help but think of Ezma from The Emperor's new Groove. Ezma had such large, eyes…but is adorable as a kitty. *smushes* I'd link, but I have no pic :(.
After some miscellaneous, random comments from yuuri, our lovely heroes find themselves on the rooftop and--oh my! Look at how relaxed and laidback Murata is. I do so love it when he does that.
Urk.. Where was I?
Oh yes, Murata is telling us why Lila's been so sad this entire episode. Apparently, there's a tradition that dictates the royal consort must never see her parents again after she enters the palace. This is when I say Lila and Antoine should elope to their own cottage in the woods and Lila never sets foot in the palace. Except that'd probably never work…
However, I squealed a little when Yuuri asks if or implies, rather, that Lila might have been the one to steal the sword (which Conrart immediately dismisses). Why the squealing? Because this just shows how far Yuuri's come since becoming Maou! At least with the whole talking with his vassals and drawing logical conclusions thing.
Of course, Josak has to make an entrance and tell Yuuri (much to his dismay) that he's already found the sacred sword thieves' hideout. Poor Yuuri. He never gets to play detective anymore (much to the Kingdom's rejoicing, I'm sure).
As Yuuri and co plot their escape from the castle in order to take down the thieves, Lila appears all girded in, well, definitely not her wedding dress She's not about to let Yuuri take all the glory and with her hubby to be's approval no less!
To bad Yuuri doesn't seem to thrilled at the idea.
Is anyone else thinking the animator's are using Murata's 'evil glasses' look far to often? I love that look, but seriously. It's loosing it's impact and should be a sign of real plotting and 'evilness' rather than deep though as they've been using it here and in other episodes. In case you're wondering, the current discussion is on why the swords are disappearing (if I remember correctly).
Meanwhile, Efee's been left behind to 'console' the King by order of Yuuri! That sounds oh so wrong…Especially as we all know that the secret to a man's heart is through his stomach XD
After being told that Yuuri thinks the king is capable of great decisiveness and charisma, the King immediately gets up and asks Gwendal (who just happened to appear) if he knows where he can find Li--I mean Yuuri and the others.
*cough*
Meanwhile, Conrart's being the proverbial wet blanket as Lila spills her concerns. She doesn't like leaving her parents, but she's following Conrart's advice and 'Believing' in her king. Just look at that look on Conrart's face! Whoever knew he'd end up with 'nice' memories after defecting from Shin Makoku?
And now a sexy no glasses Murata-kun! Because he's being his usual sneaky self and eavesdropping. It should also be mentioned that Wolfram still dreams of Yuuri cheating on him. Aw, never stop dear Wolfram. Never stop...
Apparently the thieves are hiding out in the same place as before (season 2). It's a bit in ruins now, though.
As our pals are trying to figure out how to infiltrate the ruins, it is suggested that they'll have to 'split up' and Wolfram immediately tells Yuuri to stick close to him. Yuuri, of course, claims he's 'improved' and that he can 'take care of himself. I don't know which is worse, that Yuuri would even suggest he's improved that Morgif tells Yuuri to stick next to Wolfram…
As Conrart dashes from one tree to the next, he comes upon a hooded man who mysteriously knows everything about Conrart, even that Conrart is descended from Big Cimaron's royal line. The hooded man would like to make Conrart said king except Conrart, quite emphatically refuses. Of course, our hooded friend doesn't like this and uses magic as a flare to alert his comrades to attack Yuuri's party.
Conrart, of course, wastes little time in regrouping. Going by the above cap, methinks Murata is a bit to happy to see Conrart dash in to the rescue! Of course, you also have to admire Murata's courage in going into potential battle without any weapons on hand whatsoever.
And then Antoine shows up to save Lila! How romantic <3 Until he trips and forces Lila come rescue him.
Murata doesn't look at all happy that Gwendal's come along too, but at least Josak's got those fiendishly sexy eyes lit up for him. Someone should be glad Gwendal's arrived!
You have to like the symbology of Lila handing Antoine his missing sword. Although as Murata points out, it seems like the thieves haven't found the sword they're looking for considering how they're all thrown into a chest and they didn't seem to mind leaving them all behind.
Cue the wedding ceremony. It seems quite sad that Yuuri's entourage appears to be the only foreign dignitaries in attendance. And why must Lila be off to the side all by herself and only two attendants? She looks so lonely…
But wait! What is this! Antoine breaks his sword! And on the throne no less! *gasp!* *Shock!* Sacrilege! But at least Antoine's heart is pure as he renews his vows to uphold the laws of his country and to create new history. Methinks this means Lila gets to visit home once in a while ^^
And it doesn't take long for Lila and hubby to visit the MIL. *tears at the happy reunion* And wait, the woman who maries the king must spend 1/3rd of the year at home? What about for the poor girl who wants to get away from home! Oh well, the next king can just modify it as needed, I suppose.
Buwaha! I was right! It was a wedding cake! :D And now Wolfram thinks they should have one too, much to Yuuri's dismay. And with that, cue the end credits.
Miscellaneous thoughts: So, basically, we're left with a happy ending, changed customs (Yuuri's affecting all the monarchies. Go Yuuri!) and a bit of a mystery still because we don't know what the thieves are after, or how the hooded/cloaked man knew all that stuff about Conrart. Curiouser and curiouser. And after that look Conrart gave Murata at the end, I expect the two of them will be working together in later episodes to unraveling the identify of our mysterious friend…er, enemy. Other than that, the episode was nice, sweet, and just a tad bit nostalgic. Not to mention several priceless looks :D
