Episode 025: The Past and Future
If you need to watch the episode, check out
this post (community locked) for information!
(i'm going to use something different here because i screencapped like crazy. if anyone wants the usual screencaps, let me know and i'll put up the links here :D)
The episode opens with a very adorable Wolfram sleeping alone in a bed. Suddenly, a tearful Greta enters the room crying out Yuuri's name. She then plops onto Wolfram who woke up in surprise.
(these screencaps are here because Wolf's just so cute lol)
Greta looks up to Wolf with tears in her eyes and asks Wolf where is Yuuri because she doesn't know what to do because Hube disappeared! (oh noes!)
The next scene shows someone running in the hallway, then the camera zooms in to show that
it's Nicola, with the mandatory sweatdrops on her face to show how stressed she is ^^.
And then cut to the
title of the episode. The next scene is the continuation of what happened in the last episode when Hube attacked Yuuri. And then the camera zooms out to show a crappy animation of Hube and Conrad.
their bodies look kind of disproportioned to me -_-
But anyways, Conrad pushes an injured Hube away with his sword, who clutches his bandages in pain. Conrad then says, "Stand back your Majesty."
And Hube looks a bit surprised at hearing this and looks at Yuuri, saying to himself, "Your Majesty? A king, like before?"
And then Hube realizes that he has done something "that cannot be remedied" yet again. Conrad seizes the opportunity and attacks and disarms Hube. Yuuri calls out both of their names and being the pacifist that he is, tries to stop the fighting but Conrad shouts to him, "Don't come any closer!" which stops him in his tracks.
And then more footsteps of people running and we see that it's Gunter and Gwendal! Gunter stops to ask what was happening but Gwendal further runs toward Hube. Yuuri tries to stop him but to no avail.
it's No-one-will-listen-to-Yuuri day today! :D
…And we see Gwendal
punching an injured Hube (gawd can't you people see he's bandaged all over. -_-) and Hube drops to the ground.
Gwendal says something about him being against letting Hube in the castle and proceeds to draw out his sword. Yuuri again tries to stop Gwendal, telling him that it could be a misunderstanding and they should talk firs. Seeing that no one's listening to him, Yuuri runs forward but surprisingly Conrad stops him.
Gwendal points his sword at Hube, saying that he should have done that 20 years ago and just as Gwendal was about to strike, Hube closes his eyes as if in acceptance of his fate.
But someone calls out Hube's name and it turns out that Nicola threw herself over Hube's body.
*phew* Gwendal stopped just in time
Nicola helps Hube stand up. Hube asks her what she was doing there but she doesn't answer and instead, tells him to hurry and leads him away. (hm I wonder what those soldiers with Gunter and Gwendal awhile ago are doing now, I mean they should have surrounded Hube a long time ago. ^^") Anyhow, Gwendal runs after them but is stopped by Greta.
Gwen can't resist cute things
(Yuuri then says Greta's name some time here - it has been his role since the beginning of this episode, announcing everyone's name when they enter the scene as if we don't know them yet ^^)
Greta asks them to not hurt Hube. We see Wolfram arriving at the scene. Gwendals explains that Hube has committed an unforgivable sin and Greta says that she too has done the same thing to everyone's shock. She explains that she tried to kill Yuuri too for a naïve reason and remembering it makes her cry and she wants to disappear however, she says that Yuuri still doesn't get mad at her and never said bad things to her and that Yuuri also told her that she was his daughter, etc.
Yuuri goes to her and hugs her (awww) and she says that she wants to stay by Yuuri's side always. She then looks up to Gwendal with tears in her eyes. Gwendal looks annoyed but we all know what's going on in that mind of his. LOL
Greta: All your base are belong to us; Gwendal: ….*pwned*
^_^
The next scene shows
Nicola and Hube climbing up a spiral staircase and in the window, we see three lights moving. (I thought at first they were fireflies but they seem too big hehe) and there's also a sad music playing in the background that vaguely reminds me of final fantasy VII.
Then we find out what those lights were.
Turns out to be torches of soldiers in the castle grounds scrambling to look for Nicola and Hube. (if they only surrounded Hube awhile ago like what soldiers usually do, they wouldn't be searching for him now.) We also see Yuuri and Wolfram and then Conrad and Gwendal and Greta again with those big eyes.
Dorcas reports to Gunter that Nicola and Hube are not there, Gunter replies that they're not in the west wing either which leaves Wolfram to conclude that the only place left is….
as if on cue, everyone looks up at the…. tower!
Then we see Nicola and Hube opening up a door but alas they're trapped in a balcony! (why did they go up the stairs anyway ^^) Nevertheless, Nicola looked relieved but Hube goes I'm-not-worthy-of-you-therefore-you-should-leave-me mode.
But Nicola doesn't care about that because she just wants to be with Hube along with their baby (awww). Hube turns around to face her but then he hears something and the group arrives (finally!) at the balcony.
Yuuri says, "You're completely surrounded!" but thought better and warns them not to make any rash decisions. Gwendal went past Yuuri and faces Hube. Hube apologizes to Gwendal, saying that it wasn't his plan to show himself again to them. Gwendal looks seriously pissed off.
Hube suddenly looks a lot older and
began to explain to everyone that he thought he could rest in peace if he was killed, so he dueled many fighters but everytime he was planning on giving up, he sees an image of Julia telling her that he can't and at the last minute, he tries to defend himself and ends up defeating the other fighter.
Hube further explains that he thought it was fate that
he met Conrad at Schildkraut. He thought that he could redeem himself but then he drew his sword against the Maou, which is another unforgivable act.
Yuuri says that he wasn't hurt anyway
so it's okay. .. but Gwendal asks Hube to draw his sword and that he will fight Hube with his left hand. Gwendal says that he will cut away the regret that Hube is feeling and Hube seems to accept the challenge. Nicola is against it but Hube seems resolved and even asked Gwen to take care of Nicola.
They start to fight much to Nicola's horror. Gwendal taunts him asking, "Is that all you've got?!"
Gwendal continued to attack while Hube defends which pushed him to the corner of the balcony. Yuuri shouts to Gwendal to stop but of course, Gwendal didn't and
Hube fell!
Nicola cries out while Yuuri and Greta runs over to the edge of the balcony but Hube is nowhere to be found!
…But to everyone's relief, a kohi has caught Hube! *phew*
Gwendal isn't smiling here but I think that's the closest expression to relief that his face can show ^^
Wolfram, who doesn't get much screentime in this episode, remarks how troublesome Hube is while he is let down on the ground.
Wolf I missed you!
Nicola, along with the rest of the gang, goes to where Hube is (how the hell did they got down so fast? ^^") Hube regains his consciousness and wondered why he was still alive. Greta with those tearful eyes of hers says to him that the reason he has been running away and is suffering was because he couldn't forgive himself. Then Greta asks him "But if you disappear, what will happen to Nicola? What about the baby?" which effectively and finally woke him up to his senses */me whacks Hube in the head, you didn't even think of that before!?
Greta , making everyone cry with her lines says that Hube wanted to be by Nicola's side and asks Hube to apologize to everyone and live on since everyone will forgive him anyway. (and Yuuri, too, she adds.) -->
here And then Yuuri hugs Greta and this may be the most adorable pose of them ever (Yuuri looks so cute!) and tells Hube that he will forgive him.
(Yuuri!! <3)
Yuuri then says to Gwendal that since Hube's punishment (searching for the mateki) was already served and the mateki is already in the castle, he says to Hube that he has done his job so it's all right now.
(Hube is shocked. Yes, Hube, Yuuri's eyes can get really, really big. ^^)
And then Gwendal delivers the moral of the story, "You died here once. How you lived after this is up to you." and adds that if he still feels anything, that Hube should pledge his loyalty to Yuuri. Gwen gives him the 'look' and
Nicola cuddles him. Aww~ :D
<3
The camera then zooms out and we hear Yuuri saying thank you to Gwendal. And then there's a commercial break, just when everyone thought that the episode ended there. There's Yuuri
telling everyone to sleep because it's night? (LOL duh~ ^^") and everyone seems happy.
But then…
Something's wrong with Nicola! She says "..giving birth" which sends Yuuri and Wolfram to panic! LOL
Yuuri asks if Gunter has any experience (duh, Yuuri! he's a man what do you think?! ^^") Gunter then says to Gwendal, "You do, don't you?" (which made me go rofl~) to which Gwendal replied with, "Of course not!" and on the back, Wolf quips in, "Me neither!"
HAHAHAHA
Conrad
assures everyone that the baby won't be born right away and says that he has been in a similar situation before. Yuuri asks him when was that but he was cut off by someone saying "Move! Move!"
We see Gisela, followed by the maids. They attend to Nicola, who's about to give birth and comments that men are useless in those kind of situations. (aside from providing us with crack, what Gisela said is generally true lol). Gunter remarks that Gisela is becoming more and more like Anissina to which Gisela replied with "I'm honored by that, Your Excellency." ^_^
Greta then takes Nicola's hands and with those big eyes of hers (she's been looking at people like that since the start of this episode! ^^"), encourages Nicola to hang on. Gisela then barks some instructions for the men to bring Nicola in and for the girls to prepare hot water and clean cloths.
(You go, girl! ^^) The next scene shows
Nicola in pain, with Greta at her side, and Gisela and the maids attending to her.
Outside, Yuuri is in a serious state of panic LOL.
He gets the idea to calm himself down by taking deep breaths. Wolf commented that it was the sound that they made when they were rowing their boats. And then suddenly they hear a baby crying.
:D Cut to the next morning~
We see Yuuri and Greta walking together (link), Greta says that the baby is cute and Yuuri agrees.
Heck, everyone agrees right? ^_^
Back to Greta and Yuuri, Yuuri says that the baby looks like Nicola. Greta then says that the baby will live with the parents from now on and that she's glad. ...And this gives Yuuri an idea ^_^
The next scene shows Conrad, Gunter, Yuuri and Greta in one room. Yuuri is asking Gunter why he cannot adopt Greta and he asks was it just because she's human. Gunter replied that it was because of her identity, since Greta is a survivor of the Imperial House of Zorashiya. Yuuri is confused and Conrad explains that it was the country that was destroyed during the war that took place years ago. Conrad further explains that the Suberara's Princess Izura, the wife of Zorashiya, gave away her daughter to her brother's family to make sure that her daughter is safe. Greta cluches on her shoulder where her tattoo is.
Yuuri says that her uncle didn't care about Greta at all and was the reason for her sadness so she ended up doing something reckless. Gunter is still hesitant and says something concerning politics but Yuuri complains that Greta is still young and has nothing to do with it. Conrad spoke up again in support of Yuuri, saying that by adopting a daughter, the Maou would be more responsible and that it would help Shin Makoku.
Honestly, who can turn Yuuri down when he smiles like that Lol.
...Definitely not Gunter. ^^
And so he does his signature flailing:
(there is no love more beautiful than this Gunter LOL :D)
But just as quickly, he switches back to serious!Gunter:
(a.k.a the reason why everyone loves Gunter so much ^_^)
He says that he understands and will prepare the official document right away. Greta still looks worried but Yuuri reassures her. Suddenly, the door burst open and it's Wolfram! (I bet he was standing behind that door listening to everything and waiting for the cue to make his entrance ^_^)
Wolfram then announces his plans to spoil Greta, to everyone's surprise. Greta is excited and Wolf looks pleased with himself. Yuuri says that he didn't know Wolfram liked kids. Wolfram reasons that since he's Yuuri's fiance,
he's going to be Greta's father as well. ...While Yuuri still thinks that
something is wrong with their setup. LOL. Cut to the next scene~
We see Yuuri and Conrad having a conversation about Greta and Wolfram while walking on a hallway. Conrad again employs his ESP abilities and asks Yuuri if he wants to go back to Earth. Yuuri replies that he's been in Shin Makoku for several months and he doesn't know either when he'll be able to go back. He says something about wanting to drink his mom's miso soup and Conrad apologizes to him, because they dragged Yuuri away from his family for their sake.
Yuuri says that it's Shinou's intention, and not Conrad's fault. We get to see Shinou's awesome portrait and Yuuri comments that he looks like Wolfram. The camera then zooms to the other portrait beside Shinou's. The person on the portrait also has black eyes and black hair:
Yuuri asks Conrad who that person is, and Conrad replied that it was Daikenja, the only one who power is equal to Shinou and without him, the Mazoku would have lost the war (or the world would have been destroyed). Yuuri is surprised that he's such a great person, and if he was being compared to someone as great as Daikenja. Conrad explains that Yuuri was chosen because he was suitable for it.
Conrad wants to show something to Yuuri (ooohh I wonder what that is LOL ^_^). We then see Dorcas playing with a ball, which he promptly drops as he sees Yuuri and Conrad on a horse, overlooking them.
Yuuri is happy. …because it's a baseball field! ^_^ Conrad says that it's still under construction and is being made according to his memory.
Conrad says that they gave up their day off to work on the construction of the baseball field. Dorcas, still with the shiny head, approaches them.
Oh and they made baseball balls and bats and gloves too! And then Yuuri wants to teach everyone baseball! Then Conrad suggests that they make baseball the national sport of Shin Makoku and
Yuuri is pleased. :D and then we see more Mazoku soldiers/it's almost a harem here ^^" Yuuri then says to Conrad that it's okay to have two "homes" since he cannot have two "visiting" teams. He was referring to Shin Makoku and Earth being both as his home worlds and that he was okay with it. He may not be able to come back to Earth but it was okay for him since the people in Shin Makoku wanted him to come.
"Then.. I have a home in both places. There isn't a happier life than this."
Cut to the next scene~ ^_^
Yuuri is in the bath, telling himself that he was glad to be the Maou. But then he sees a dog?!
Gwendal's? lol maybe not, it looks too much like a dog haha
And so, Yuuri got sucked in a whirlpool. Again.
Everything went black and we hear someone's voice calling out Yuuri's name. Yuuri opens his eyes and all he sees is a blur.. But it turns out to be
just Murata and the trainer in the dolphin show way back. Murata then turns to the crowd to announce that Yuuri has come around.
Yuuri stands up and his towel slid off. Bwahaha! :D
Anyway, Murata is very relieved that Yuuri is okay and noticed that Yuuri's clothes got washed away too. And Yuuri dodges the topic by smiling, and realizes that he has indeed come back to Earth.
Oh and Bandou-kun'sa happy to see Yuuri back, too. And finally, we hear Yuuri's internal monologue: "As soon as I made my decision, this happens. But as I thought about my family while far away, I will think about Shin Makoku here. That way, I will be closer to my kingdom."
END
finally my internet cooperated with me. ^^ sorry for the slight delay~ I will add my thoughts on this episode later when I finish my review class :D
Characters:
Nicola and Hube
I'm all hands down to Nicola in this episode, I've seen mothers in labor and I swear, not any one of them can run all over the place like she did (it can be really, really painful for a first time mother like her ^^) And I think that it was really sweet when she protected Hube from Gwendal. She really just wanted to keep her family safe and complete. Hube, on the other hand, was torn between staying by Nicola's side and forgiving himself. When he told Gwendal to take care of Nicola, it's very obvious that Nicola's the only thing that he cares for in the world. He has repented for the things he did in the past but the guilt just eats him inside that he cannot even see how much Nicola and their baby needs him to live. I really felt sorry for him and at one point, I honestly thought he was going to get killed! *sad* Fortunately, he realizes just in time that just like everyone else, he deserved a second chance in life. :)
Greta
Greta has shown real courage in this episode, especially on that part when she stopped Gwendal from going after Hube. She also did a good job in convincing the others that the right thing to do is to forgive each other, (or in Hube's case, to forgive himself,) when no one's even bothering to listen to Yuuri, not even Conrad who usually takes Yuuri's side in these kinds of situations. I went 'awwww' on most of her lines, she really understands and feels for Hube since they are somewhat in a similar situation. For a child her age, she definitely went through a LOT and I'm really glad that Yuuri decided to adopt her officially and therefore, make Greta's dream of belonging in a family come true. And her interactions with Yuuri in this episode are overflowing with so much love! <3
Yuuri
Yuuri is acting very "Yuuri"-like in this episode. Everyone was too cold and filled with sad memories from the past and no one's listening to him! I admit, I'm kind of surprised Yuuri didn't go Maou mode here from the frustration and then I thought maybe it was because Yuuri doesn't want to force his beliefs (forgiving, etc) to the people who were primarily involved with what Hube has done. After all, forgiving has to be voluntary and never an obligation or a requirement ^^"
Further in the episode, we see a more responsible Yuuri and I can say that he really matured a lot from the first time he became the king. This time he's not treating his stay in Shin Makoku like a "game" or a "quest" that he must complete so he can go back to Earth, in fact in the last parts, he accepts and openly admits to Conrad that Shin Makoku has become a home for him already. It seems that he's really grown attached to his kingdom and he didn't seem to be too excited to get back to Earth for once. :D We also see Yuuri making important decisions by himself like accepting his responsibility to the people of Shin Makoku as well as adopting Greta as a daughter. He obviously cares about Greta a lot and although it seemed like a rash decision on his part, he looks pretty determined and I'm sure he's going to become a good father along with Wolf ^_^.
Conrad and Gwendal
These two, along with Hube, are the characters who are somewhat still "living in the past" and has yet to learn to forgive but luckily, Yuuri and Greta are there to illuminate them. Gwendal's resentment to Hube when they saw each other again was very obvious, he even ignored Yuuri for the most parts of this episode! ^^" But after some talk from Greta plus those teary puppy eyes, Gwendal finally seems to realize that Hube is indeed a changed man. When he challenged Hube up in that tower, I bet he knew all along that there was a kohi there to catch Hube if he fell . I guess he just wanted to give Hube a chance to finally close that tragic chapter in their lives and let Hube become a "new" man after all that has happened.
I'm a WolfYuu fan but I really find the interactions between Conrad and Yuuri especially on the latter parts very sweet. Yuuri and Conrad certainly connects in a very different level compared to the others. Conrad almost always knew how Yuuri feels and Yuuri in turn opens up his feelings and realizations to him. When I first saw this episode, I attributed it to the fact that Conrad is technically the first person that Yuuri has learned to trust in Shin Makoku. [spoilers]But then as the series went on, I thought maybe it was only because Yuuri has Julia's soul and therefore, whatever link that Julia had with Conrad in the past was retained. Here, however, I think that Conrad is treating Yuuri as he is. He seems to consider Yuuri as someone different and unique (yet still having the same kind qualities) from the Julia that he knew, but I doubt that Conrad had completely let go of his past at this moment.[/spoilers]
Gunter and Wolfram didn't have much screen time in this episode. Wolf saying that he's willing to become Greta's father too was so funny ^^" And he's right, what's wrong with spoiling his daughter? Hahaha. It seems that he has changed a lot from the human-hating Mazoku whom we met in the first episode! His reaction when Nicola was about to give birth was just win! ^_^ And Gunter, so adorable! I wonder what he was trying to imply when he said "You do, don't you?" to Gwendal. Hahaha And I was laughing so hard when he went all flaily then he becomes all serious the next scene. He seems more lax with policies and rules when Yuuri's involved, but I'd like to think that it's not because he loves Yuuri or that Yuuri is the Maou, but because Yuuri's pacifist ways are getting to him ^_^
This episode provided a great ending to this story arc. Hube is forgiven and is given another chance in life, Conrad and the others learned to forgive and had put the past behind them, Yuuri, Greta and Wolfram becomes a family and Yuuri finally accepts Shin Makoku as his other home. A baby from a Mazoku and human parents is also born, as if signifying that there's a new hope for everyone. ^_^
I hope you guys enjoyed this summary and I'm sorry for the rambling. Haha I tend to do that when I'm in fangirl mode ^^
