Gwendal stared.
Adalbert stared back.
The pot of tea between them is growing cold.

"That was a confession?" Gwendal asked, gruffly.
"Yes." Adalbert restrained the obviously.
"This is very sudden." Gwendal had trouble wrapping his mind around it. Damned love problems.
Adalbert gave him a look. "We've been friends since we were six. I have had feelings for you since I was twenty."
And they returned to staring at each other.

Gwendal is resolute. Whatever the hell else, he had to remain fair and just.
Yes, his mother had wanted him to marry a cute girl she could fuss over.
But Adalbert was an old friend. What was the saying, again?
Bros before hos, yes.
Up until the point a bro becomes a ho, then suddenly the world is a huge grey area.
Yes, Adalbert was a bit of a macho-macho-man. Yes, he worked with the nature reserve to track down poachers and looked more than a bit like a bear himself.
But love was love, and if his friend Anissina was any gauge to go by, women were scarier than men.
Gwendal sighed, and massaged his temples.
"So," he said, voice soft and controlled. "Where do you want to go for a date?"
Adalbert didn't break into a smile, but his frown of deep concentration lessened a little.
Which was all Gwendal needed to know about how the other man felt, because it was the equivalent of a normal person heaving a sigh of relief and slumping in his chair.
"There's a two-week camp-out planned for next week. We think there may be some illegal bird-egg harvesters roaming the area, and they need to be taken care off."
Things were looking good already, thought Gwendal.
Not a mention of going shopping or, God forbid, dancing.
Yes, Gwendal believed this could be the start of a beautiful relationship.
They empty the pot of tea between them.
