1. To the general shock of no one:
Yes, Utena Tenjou. I'm still obsessed.
2. Lucy from Elfen Lied. There's something about a woman that wants to destroy the entire human species and has the power to do it while starring in a show that might as well be called Why Humans Suck and Should Be Scoured From the Earth.
3. Seung Mina. I like the fact that she's tough, self reliant, and doesn't give a rat's ass about her oppressive patriarchal culture. I love that she's tougher than the guys and arguably a better character than Kilik. It helps that she's a stick fighter, and I love stick fighting. Meh.
4. Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Some of the best writing on television and a great character and character arc. Shame about season seven, though I have high hopes for the upcoming eighth season.
5. Juri from Utena. Anyone that's seen the series should know why.
Does it bother anyone else that most of these are animated characters? I suppose I could mention something about ideals rather than reality, but then the entire point of this is fictional characters. I guess I'm on something like solid ground here...
6. River Tam. Brilliant, insane, graceful, psychic, playful. Oh, and she's a ninja on what is, effectively, a space pirate vessel. What's not to love?
7. Elisabeth Swann. I like my warrior women and I dig the last name.
8. Kitty Pryde. I can already hear KT screaming for my blood. In my defense, she's bright, resourceful, trained by Logan to be something of a killing machine, and Jewish. As far as Jewish heroes go, I think I'm stuck with her and Magneto. I'm not crushing on Eric Lensharr, no matter how cool he is.
9. Catwoman. No comment necessary. Selina is awesome.
10. Aerith. Really, you could sub in any of the honorable mentions. She was one of two interesting characters in FFVII. She got killed by the other one. I suppose she spared my playing a game that was more an exercise in Pavlovian Response than actual entertainment. Cosplay by Adella, who's made something of a living at it.
