Today:
Well, it was still really really warm and humid with less of a breeze than Friday but also more cloud cover, which helped. Fortunately, I had very little mail and could actually deliver an hour of C13 (Hi Curlyjo! That roaring/squealing sound you heard was my truck throwing a rooster tail as I sped by). Several of my residents gave me water and one even threw in some snacks, but I finished in eight and went off to see Fudd.
On the way home, I ran into a pet peeve (almost literally). By not slowing down unnecessarily for a speed bump, I pulled well ahead of a tailgating truck as I traveled up the road that circles our apt. complex. Then I tapped my breaks to warn the other drive that I was about slow/stop/maneuver. Then I pulled a hard left toward a solid wall of parked cars (meaning I couldn't possibly be parking head-in). Pausing only long enough for my car to finish shifting into reverse, I mentally aligned my vehicle and backed at pretty much the same speed at which I'd gone forward. Lots of practice, don'tchaknow.
See if you can guess what that fool driver behind had tried to do. Yeah, the fool almost got rammed by a car moving backward at speed. I saw him swerve hard to the left to get out of my way and I like to imagine he also pissed his fool pants. Yield, motherfucker; this woman knows how to back.
Work Summaries:
Friday I had to come in a half hour early which is always a bad sign. Puddin' told me I was to aim for eight hours which was just funny because my parcels were no where near done when I needed them and I had forty minutes of C17 (walking). I came back a quarter to six which amounted to about ten hours.
Thursday it was warm but I had plenty of ice water. Had half of C17 but got done in time by skipping lunch, all breaks and driving in a reckless fashion. On the way to the dojo, I unstuck a crown, so went home to stick it back on. Le sigh. Upon arriving, I met a mystery carrier who turned out to be our regular carrier's T6 looking for overtime. He'd been directed to me by the helpful carrier from yesterday. I have him information, warned him what a useless asshat the new PM is, but maybe he'll come help. Then I put my tooth back in and... wrote a fannish essay.
Wednesday morning I was so addled from sleeping forever that I forgot all my ice water. Fortunately, I was offered more than enough by my residents. I also had alf of C13 which was, as usual, 2.5 hours of work that needed to be done in an hour. That's not sarcasm; it's actual fact. When I got back I met a carrier from the next zip code who I mistook for one who lived in my apt complex. She knew that carrier and figured out who I was. After work, Keith and I went boot shopping (for him). I bought him a pair each of work and hiking boots. Then we did laundry, which is not a euphemism. No, seriously, we had a lot of clean clothes.
Lolz:
I've heard of people who sign using an "X" and they fall in three basic categories: The illiterate, the disabled and the dysfunctionally paranoid. I had a woman sign for a letter with a gigantic "X" and I almost burst out laughing. I saw her read the return address, so she wasn't illiterate and clearly not disabled. So why was her paranoia dysfunctional? Because I promptly cosigned as a witness in accordance with policy to make her "X" legally binding. And I did good; I didn't laugh in her face.
Relatives:
My sister-in-law and nephew visited for the week of the 4th. We showed them around town and took them to the Mall for the fireworks. We milled around the museums, walked forever and they even got to experience the mobbed metro.
The next week I visited my folks for my dad's 70th birthday. We all carried through a charade that my mother was taking him to dinner, so we went window-shopping etc but really we were moving around food for a surprise party at a friend's house. It was pretty lolz and my mother managed to keep a straight face every time I spun some outlandish lie to my dad.
They also tried to get me to take my brother's cats (Pepper & Faust) who were fobbed off on them, to the local shelter. But it was closed on Thursdays which was taken to be portentous.
In Other News:
I have been riding horses and possibly finding my seat in Western (finally), going to aikido and met a former student from my prior dojo (ten years ago). We both recognized each other and proceeded to gossip shamelessly while knocking each other down.
