Work. Pfft.
Sunday I woke up rigid with pain so that nixed aikido in the morning. I sat around for a while, then began helping Keith with the remaining furniture that required assembly. We have definitely been IKEA'd. After a bit, I swung over to Walmart to buy some large storage bins and we got to work sorting and re-boxing things in the guest room. Keith hung a central lamp and it's shaping up nicely.
Monday was awful. Just as I was rolling out with a half hour bump, the PM took it off me and replaced it with 1.5 hours of a walking route. I hadn't made any pivot time so that immediately eliminated any possibility of lunch or breaks. I called Puddin' to warn him that, at best, I would be returning at 6pm, not at the office by then. Unfortunately, I wasn't very familiar with the route I'd been given which made me slow. Like molasses. I had trouble dividing the loops, bad enough, but then it got lolarious. It turned out I had a cluster box, but no key. Since no one was answering any of the phone lines, I returned around 6:45pm, with all the cluster box mail. I wasn't the only one; all of us dumped on at the last minute were really late.
Doctors!
Today? Better. I saw my rheumatologist in the morning. Since I've been falling back asleep after taking my morning lyrica, I offered to try a full cycle. If that works, it'll eliminate any need for pain medication at night. Then I dropped off my prescription and fetched some light groceries while waiting.
Unionization!
It was running late but I needed to write up a list of general grievances to hand in to Carrier05 who'll be faxing in everyone's to the central union. After discussing it with a clerk in the locker room, I sealed it in an envelope and addressed it to him thereby making it illegal for the PM or supervisor to take/open it. All the same, I'll ask him tomorrow if he found it.
Riding!
By the end of all those errands, I'd well missed my noon riding lesson, but I packed my gear and went anyway. At the very least, I would spend some time around horses while enjoying the pleasant weather. I helped out here and there with the summer camp kids and at 3:30pm, the instructor assigned me to Allie for an English lesson. Hurray!
Allie was loads more cooperative than Sam and I had no difficulty remembering how to post on the proper diagonal, so I worked on fine-tuning my posture, controlling her speed (she's fast), looking where I'm going, etc. When the instructor was satisfied with that, she told me to practice the two-point position at a trot. Having no problem with that, she drug a pipe perpendicular to the fence and had me do the same. Allie high-stepped the first two times but, for whatever reason, cheerfully jumped it the third time. I don't think I batted an eyelash, but then, I knew something the instructor didn't. The two-point position is nearly identical to the slolalm/jump position in downhill skiing. :P
It'll probably be back to kicking Sam next week. *le sigh*
Aikido!
After a quick shower and bite to eat, I drove up to the dojo. It's test night so I spent the time before class chatting incessantly about anything except testing. My fellow students all caught on to my strategy, but then it was time to practice. Which was fine, but then it was testing time and... yeah. A 6th kyu student went before me and did well, then it was my turn. Um, I have little cognizant recollection aside from a lot of camera flashes?
I remember I tripped on my hakama once, though I finished the throw without losing focus. Then there was the hilarious moment when I couldn't remember what yokemenuchi shihonage was and absently did about a half dozen techniques before settling on a kotegaishi pin. On the upside, that turned out to be a highlight because I never froze up, fixated on my uke, hesitated or lost my composure. I just reflexively switched between techniques until I found one that worked.
Anyway, I passed.
