Android Love

You know what's neat about this article? Science fiction has a certain standing default assumption about how humans would treat android life forms. Generally, and the immediate cases that spring to mind are Terminator, Anime, Star Trek, the majority of people are shown to hold androids in revulsion. They aren't considered sentient, even if they are, with only select people demonstrating acceptance and affection toward artificial intelligences. Star Wars swings the other way and I think maybe it got things right. Sometimes they're just droids, and other times they're people, but we'll invariably relate to them as living beings. The only real question is: will we grant sentient androids civil rights? When will we cross that threshold at which the average person observing its behavior and actions will conclude it has self-will?
