Star Trek: A Few Random Observations

May 14, 2009 17:08

We went to see it again because, yes, I really liked it, lens flare, abbreviated plot to cram a four hour movie into two hours and all. (I'm somewhat expecting an extended cut DVD release). I decided to look for certain things this time around.

1. I was fairly certain of this the first time around, but then I saw people being snarky about the skirt thing, so I watched the background more closely this time. There were more female officers in pants (always coupled with long-sleeved shirts so even if it was a half shot, you knew) than in skirts. I'm not counting the instructors, who all wore pants, either.

2. I saw Ayel three times on the Narada. She was the one with hair (braids). She was the first officer, though you wouldn't know it from the way Nero kept using various similar looking dudes as his lackeys. From this, I conclude that first officers cannot be used as mouth-pieces, but you can shout at them to take over the destruction of Earth while you go beat on a puny Human.

3. I heard Bones mention Nurse Chapel, this time.

4. Give me a show of hands, people. I cannot possibly be the only person who thinks Nero was getting a blow-job in that one scene. You know the one I mean.

In unrelated news, ASC is still dominated by some vocal asshats who refuse to understand how being openly hostile to new series may not be in the group's best interest. It's unfortunate. I recall they acted the same way toward Enterprise fans who took the unsubtle hint and left. We posted more fic in the past year than ASC. Meanwhile, the folks there wonder why they don't get more traffic. I'd say they've missed the boat once again. *shrugs*
