Keith urged me to just go ahead and post this before making waffles. It goes something like: O Rly, SD finally got suspended for unrepentant copyright violations? Because, y'know, it is when you're not couching it as a structured parody or writing an essay about the source material.... Anyway, I'm officially a member but I haven't posted in ages, nor even checked a post, because people got so bitchy there. Here, as a leet equation: Whiny Rants > Squee = Not For Me.
So, on one hand I've got no sympathy for the massive entitlement I see going on with the fans. On the other hand, I can't help but notice that PAD's honorable crusade against such practices didn't begin until his easy to hurt feelings got hurt again. My time spent in fanficcing has left me wholly unsympathetic to whining whiners who discover that some people don't like their writing and will flame flame flame over it. It's why we all carry marshmallows and wieners. I also say that as a classically trained artist who was taught very firmly that mean people are the occupational hazard of putting up your work anywhere and you've just got to be a proper professional and ignore them, even if the ignorant things they say make you want to scream.
Because screaming makes you look like a tool, no matter how justified it may be, and we're all just a bunch of needling five year olds at heart. So the end result here is that I barely noticed that SD went down and I'll be dropping X-Factor from my pull list... and I wasn't reading it for free.
