Title: Rwanda-based Computer Programming Mentor

Job Description Overview:
Partners In Health is looking for three full-time Computer Programming Mentors to relocate to Kigali, Rwanda. Mentors will participate in a new technical capacity-building program for Rwandan computer programming students.
Through this program, Rwandan students will gain hands-on experience by customizing software for the electronic medical record system OpenMRS to fit the needs of the Rwandan Ministry of Health. Each mentor will oversee the training of three to six students. Mentors will also have the opportunity to guest lecture at two Rwandan universities and contribute to curriculum building for future computer science students throughout the country.
Mentors will be paid a small stipend to cover travel and living expenses in Rwanda.
Primary Responsibilities:
o Provide close oversight and guidance to a team of three Rwandan programming students.
o Contribute to a broader curriculum development for both future mentor-program participants and students in Rwandan universities.
o Work with the team of mentors to design and run regular learning sessions for all program participants.
o Maintain close contact with members of the Rwandan Ministry of Health to ensure the successful completion of programming deliverables.
o Serve as occasional guest lecturers for students at the Kigali Institute of Science and Technology and the National University of Rwanda.
Qualifications:
o Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or related field, Master’s Degree preferred.
o Conversational French or Kiswahili skills a bonus, but not required
o Demonstrated leadership or teaching experience.
o Ability to work independently, take initiative, and multitask.
o Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with culturally diverse students, government officials, and academia.
o Strong communication and organizational skills.
o Interest in social justice, health care, and international capacity building.
o Overseas working or living experience preferred.
o Six month commitment required, twelve month preferred.
o Ability to relocate to Rwanda promptly (early summer 2008)
