A friend of mine gave birth a week ago and she is really suffering. Breastfeeding is hard and baby has serious leg problems (dad has a type of MD, no word yet though if that's what baby has, but obviously it's possible). There's some sort of hip displacement, he can't fully extend his legs and one has a club foot.
She is miserable like all new moms, plus this worry. So I brought her a homemade meal, frozen and labeled with cooking directions, and sat with her for a bit. Today on my way to work I brought her a box of Dunkin Donut munchkins. It doesn't take much to let someone know they are not alone. I also brought her our good baby books - all for mental health, not actual advice. The best is "The Shit They Never Told You," which is hilarious. And "Milk Mommies Diaries" which is stories from miserable working moms pumping at work, at home, in the car, at night...
We do not need them anymore and I think she'll appreciate them.
Maybe she doesn't want munchkins but I know when I was home alone with a newborn, I would've loved it if anyone had brought me donuts. :)
