Ok, first of all, I know what you may be thinking. "Is he really posting when he said he would?" Well, since this is a post that shall cover all the wonderful topics that were introduced yesterday, then yes... yes I am.
A lot has happened since I last posted, but since I don't feel like throwing all that out here, I'm just going to throw some highlights.
Well, a couple months ago I was playing Final Fantasy XI with some friends and, well, long story short, we needed some intervention from the GMs, but to our dismay they refused to help us resolve the situation of harassment that we were experiencing. So, because of that, I figured there was no reason for me to pay $13 every month for a game when the people who are there to support me won't do their job. So, I haven't played in the last 2 months or so, and I'll tell you, it's nice. Something that would happen when I would play Final Fantasy is that all other games would just kind of be pushed aside. On top of that, I wouldn't actually try new games that came out, since I knew I wouldn't spend the time on them anyways.
So, I decided to play something that I have been told was great, and I actually owned, but I just never got very far. And thus, I learned the awesomeness that is Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. I did what every normal all around good guy would do, and played through all light side. Eventually I'll probably do a dark side game, but since it's still pretty fresh in my mind, I figured it would just be too much of a repeat. It really is an incredibly great game as long as you can get past the first planet. Luckily, Baracuda told me about a mod that skips the entire first planet, but gives you the experience points and bunch of items as if you actually went through the planet. It will make my second play through a ton more enjoyable.
So, the next game I took a crack as was Half Life 2. I must say, Valve has a way of making things... well, perfect. The game gives you a feeling of a completely open environment, yet you are still on a set linear path. Now, i'm sure everyone has already played the greatness of this first person shooter, but I just thought I would comment on the fact that I loved it. The only complaint that I actually do have is that the load times take forever! But other then that, the story is great, the graphics and gameplay are awesome, and it kept me wanting more. Because of that, I went ahead and played through Episode 1 as well. The cool thing was, I was able to get them because Baracuda bought Orange Box and already had Half Life 2 and Episode 1, so he was able to gift them to me. So sadly, I don't have Episode 2, which I really need to play since I hate cliffhangers, and the pure god-like gaming experience called Portal.
I did, however, get scolded from a person or two because I had never gone through the original Half Life. So, because Valve is so awesome and Steam is kinda nifty, I went ahead and bought Half Life Source and am currently playing through that. It's not as polished as 2, obviously, but it's still a good experience so far anyways.
Well, video games aren't the only thing that is currently taking my free time, the newest Republic Commando book has come out, and of course, I had to pick it up. So far, the Republic Commando books (by the wonderful British author Karen Traviss) are by far the best extended universe material in Star Wars. Those books have a very unique perspective on the Star Wars Universe by showing you how everything looks through the eyes of a commando squad from clone army during the Clone Wars. There are a few other points of view, but for the most part, it's a very big change from the Jedi centered universe that we are used to. If you haven't had a chance to pick them up and are a Star Wars fan, you really should do yourself a favor. You won't be sorry.
Well, there really is no good segway into this, but it's going to be official. I'm leaving the state of Arizona. There are a ton of factors contributing to this decision, but what is the biggest contribution is that I don't like it here, and have lived here my whole life. It's time for a change. If you would like to know more, then contact me and we can talk about it sometime.
One thing that Arizona has been doing right is the "Say no to Meth." Ads. Do a search for them if you want to see them, but man, they are pretty creepy. All having to do with the horrible side effects of trying it just one time. Now, anyone who knows me knows that I am not even remotely into drugs, but damn, those commercials really turned any idea that I would do meth out of my mind.
As for commercials, I am so happy that Jerry Seinfeld's Bee Movie is finally out. I was so freakin' tired of seeing those commercials. The movie doesn't seem all that good from what I have seen from the previews, and while I'm not going to judge it and say it's crap before I see it, I won't make any effort whatsoever to see it, due to the fact that it's so overly advertised that it's beyond annoying.
One movie that was great was Dan in Real Life. This wasn't really a bust out laughing comedy like one of Steve Carell's other movies, like the 40 Year Old Virgin, it was still incredibly hilarious. Surprisingly, it's a movie about a family that isn't dysfunctional. If you want to go see a good flick, totally check it out.
And as for me being behind on certain things, one thing I am finally caught up on is Battlestar Galactica. I never thought that I would be into it, considering I thought the old series was a bit lame, however, the new series on Sci Fi is written and presented so well that it just blows my mind. So yay, 3 seasons under my belt, but sadly, the 4th and final season doesn't start until April of next year. At least the movie about the Battlestar Pegasus is on in a few weeks. Hopefully that can satisfy my craving for a bit. In the meantime, I'll have to see about acquiring the episodes on Dvd. The saddest part is that it's going to go the way of awesome sci fi tv, like Firefly and get cancelled well before it should. Oh well.
And that is catching up a tiny bit. So yay. On a side note, I really shouldn't post while I am watching Invader Zim. It took a bit of attention, and I wouldn't be surprised if these thoughts just ended up being complete jibber-jabber.
