04.  Fearless  - colbie caillat

(Go on... go on and break my heart. I'll be okay I'm fearless: A song that I'll forever remember.)

Yonghwa sat beside Jonghyun at the cafeteria lunch table beside the clear glass.

"So, you're saying that Seohyun-ssi is one of the performers in the music festival even though she can't play a single instrument and has no experience at all... and that you're going to help her?" Jonghyun basically repeated Yonghwa's explantion, with a mouthful of sandwich in his mouth.

"You already said that twice! And stop talking while you're eating!" Yonghwa scolded him, annoyed.

Jonghyun just ignored him. "And you're okay with it?"

"Do I have a choice?"

"You do pabo! I mean, aren't you busy enough? With all your homework, practice, tutoring and now-" Jonghyun stopped midway when he noticed his friend wasn't paying attention, instead his gaze was focus at the Seo Juhyun who sat peacefully under the tree near them, reading a book.

Within seconds, Yonghwa was already on his feet confusing Jonghyun. "Where are you going?"

"…ditching you" And he turns to walk away, leaving his friend speechless.

The moment he stood still in front of her, there was something about the way she sat there, silent, and serene with a book at hand as if she was lost in another world that also made him silent. Momentarily forgetting the reason he was there in the first place.

"Jung Yonghwa-ssi..." Her voice floated in the air forcing him to snap back to reality.

"Did I scare you again? I'm sorry, I didn't mean to... you just looked so..." he realized he was rambling, "Uh, forget it! I was just wondering if you would like a change of place of where to study today. That is if... it's okay with you, of course!"

Stupid, he silently cursed himself inside.

"I-It's fine with me too." She gave him a small smile that made him think twice whether she's really okay with it or not.

"It's settled then..." She nodded, and suddenly the silence around them felt utterly awkward as he stood in front of her that he wondered if she really had heard what he had said about her earlier.

"So... I'll see you later?"

"Yes."

And he left feeling stupid all of a sudden.

He never liked complications and he certainly didn't expect to find it with Seo Juhyun. Not when he thought she was the safest choice.

The sky now illuminated different shades of oranges and reds and purples as the wind calmly picks up its pace taking its' own time. The view silhouetted a landscape shaded half-light and half the darkness. The sun was slowly going down giving a backdrop shadow of bright red and orange in one thick perfect line surround the whole sky surface.

"It's beautiful…" Seohyun breathed in amazement

"I found this when I was a child. It was when I..." Yonghwa trailed off, somewhat lost.

But Seohyun already knew the reason why and she didn't need it to hear from him. So instead she supplied for him, "I've always wanted a place to hide."

They were left silent for a moment occupying them with what's in front of them and the hearts that beats inside them whispering thoughts that they're too afraid to say aloud.

Yonghwa spoke first. "I'll help you, Seohyun-ssi. Just like the way you're helping me. It's the only way I can pay you for coming back that night. It was really important for me. I hope we can get along in the future, as friends."

Seohyun turned to him catching his gaze, realizing that he was now simply drawing a line between them because for him, she's the safest choice. The exception he needs.

"T-Thank you…" This time she breathed out the words as if they were her last.

She felt something inside her prickle with pain and there was nothing she could do about it.

She realized, wanting was wanting--you had to balance it against reality, the painful fact that at the end of whatever this was between them, Jung Yonghwa will always remain as a dream for her. The only thing she could do now is stand against the line knowing she will never be able to cross it.
