I dunno, the whole MMO business has been bugging me for awile.

I mean, Blizzard's WoW has a population of about (or at least) 1 million. That's 13 million a month, or 156 million anually.

Servers could cost up to 50,000 dollars, and Blizzard has about 50 of them. Also, assuming each server can support a population of 1,000 gamers or more, then the inital cost of the box ($50) would nullify the cost of the server.

Assuming one trained maintanence employee per five servers, that'd be 10 million a year, assuming a high salary of 100,000$ a year.

Blizzard probably has a staff of 200-400, with an average salary of 70,000 a year, so that'd be about 21 million a year. I'll give any miscenaneous costs a 10 million dollar threshold.

That adds up to 41 million a year.

Which leaves 105 million net profit a year for Blizzard?

Am I missing something? It seems to me that MMO's are the newest scam that no one's noticed yet; but then again, I could be wrong.
