Movie: LIMITLESS

Mar 16, 2011 03:02

Dragged rmd off to see Limitless tonight on one of those free movie passes I occasionally score.

Wow. I really liked it. It helped that the MacGuffin (a drug that makes you smart and motivated) didn't require a complex support structure and yet still allowed for variety and nuance.

It also helped that I developed a huge crush on Bradley Cooper back when he was in Alias (2001-2006, with Jennifer Garner) and enjoy watching him on the screen.

It's a bit of a science fiction movie (depicting a very near & very possible future) as well as a bit of a thriller (with espionage-like elements), and it's a mystery. These aren't sub-plots exactly, but all tangled up to make one big plot.

It felt like it had at least 3 different endings, then more stuff would show up. But, unlike the last Batman movie that felt like this with the multiple endings, where I couldn't WAIT til it actually FINISHED and found its usage exasperating, I was excited for the "what next" element of this style in Limitless. I also thought, at least once, "Oh good! There's more!"

Oh and if you're prone to motion sickness, the opening credits might make you hurl. And there are at least 2, maybe 3 other scenes that are seriously disorienting and lots of little flips and switches scattered throughout. I liked the effect, for the most part.

Side Note: For reasons I don't understand, whenever I click on the IMDB links I paste here in LJ, I end up at a "reload your page" screen. If that keeps happening to you as well, you can just copy the link & paste it into another screen/tab, it'll open up the right IMDB page just fine.
