Movie: The Losers

Apr 21, 2010 01:34

Monday night, I once again dragged rmd out for a free preview, this time of the movie adaptation of the DC Comics series The Losers.

It was OK. I was no where near as jazzed afterward as I was for Kick-Ass. The plot was kinda meh. Five guys get burned by the CIA (sort of) and are offered a chance to not only get back to America (from South America, where they are stranded) but also to get revenge on the guy who burned them. The person who offers them this chance is a hot chick named Aisha (played by Zoe Saldana), who has excellent fighting moves. She was damn good in this movie, but I didn't really feel any emotional attachment to her until nearly the end, when her armor cracks a little.

Some of the character interactions were a little too glib. And I love Jeffrey Dean Morgan, but he didn't really strike me as The Colonel type... y'know, the kind of guy you follow into battle?

The characters of Jensen, Pooch, and Cougar were excellent, though. Played by Chris Evans, Columbus Short, and Óscar Jaenada respectively, they had good chemistry and funny lines. I don't think Jaenada ever really got the hang of tipping his hat - his signature move - it always felt weirdly forced. And half the time, the person he was tipping his hat to couldn't see it. But the three of them worked really well together and are almost worth going to see the movie on their own. Especially for Jensen's preoccupation with his niece's soccer team. Go Petunias!

There are two extra endings that wrap up plot points, so stay at least halfway through the credits if you go. (But there were no trick credits at the end, so you don't have to stay all the way through unless you're a serious credits-watchin' weirdo like me.)
