WTF? Seriously? U.S. Life on Mars, you fail

From the beginning I had absolutely no expectations for the Life On Mars USA finale. Or at least, I thought I had no expectations.
I've essentially been watching it out of curiosity and a stupid obsession with following through to the end. I knew it was going to be no where near as good as the original. I knew there was almost no glimmer of hope for it remotely living up to it.
But I never thought they would totally insult my intelligence and essentially take a shit on the source material by pulling that completely idiotic ending out of their asses. Whoever allowed the rights to be sold should be kicking themselves right now, because I honestly cannot think of a more disrespectful "up yours" this is to the original. Sam decides that no thanks, I am so in love with Annie that I think I'll stay in 1973? And then it turns out that both him going back to 1973 and being a cop in 2008 was just a scenario created to stimulate his mind while he was hibernating for a mission to Mars in 2035? And Gene is actually his father? And completely idiotically placed snippets of the lyrics to "Life On Mars" in the other characters' dialogue is not insanely cheesy?
They could have at least made some sort of tie in with the song at the end, but no, they played Elton John.
Who am I kidding, really? I just set myself up for disappointment. But I am also insanely pissed off that they had the audacity to do this. :\'

Okay, I bailed on the series after there was table dancing, but this! This just takes the whole fucking cake. I took all the name changes, even when they changed Ruth's name to Rose. This though, oh hell no, just no. It was bad enough in 1973 he slept with Gene's 'daughter', because that just creates all sorts of fucked upness in this lovely shit hole of a remake, but that he's Gene's son? I don't know whether to be thoroughly astonished at their stupidity, or wonder if it's some sick April Fools' joke.
