Hi, I think there is a lot more to Alexander and Hephaestion than simply being each other's lovers. I know a lot of fanfiction writers concentrate on this romance almost exclusively, but for me they were principally friends and as close as brothers. I don't personally like the concept of someone 'wanting' Hephaestion as it turns him into nothing more than a sexual object, and rather a victim. I don't believe he was a victim, and that there was a lot more to him than just sex - otherwise Alexander wouldn't have loved and depended upon him so much in his role as a king. So, to answer your questions, if someone was interested in Hephaestion, for me, it would have been a question of whether he was interested back. What would Alexander do if Hephaestion was interested in someone else? If it was merely a sexual attraction, as his was for Bagoas, if he'd felt any jealousy he would have thought it beneath himself to show it. The ancient Greeks didn't have our concept of monogamous relationships. If it was someone of equal social standing as Hephaestion, Alexander would have had to accept it otherwise he would not have be respectful of Hephaestion as a man. He would only truly have felt threatened though if Heph's new friendship threatened his loyalty to Alexander as king - and that for me is unthinkable because the sources say that Hephaestion was completely loyal to Alexander as king.
