Part 2 He knew it. He had had a feeling that the maintainers would choose him and that yesterday’s night would be the last night he would be spending in Jin’s embrace. It wasn’t like he didn’t have any self-confidence in his own playing skills but there was the possibility that he would get killed there if he wasn’t able to win the game. Kame felt like crying. He wanted to see Jin so badly. At least only a glimpse at him would be enough to set Kame’s soul at ease.
Please only once, Kame prayed and kept checking the place around him hoping that the other got curious and went out of his room despite the fact that it was locked. On the competition date, all the players had to be in their rooms and none of them knew which ones were chosen until the maintainers came to pick up the selected players.
It was insane, how much he was yearning to see the older man.
He wasn’t afraid of death itself. He was afraid of not being able to see Jin again. It frightened him. He loved the other from the bottom of his heart and despite the fact that neither of them had muttered those three words, they both knew that the other held a precious place in each other’s hearts.
The maintainers guided him to the elevator and pressed the 21st. He had heard from Jin that the competition took place in that floor and he couldn’t help the anxiousness creeping on his body and he felt himself shivering. In that room, he would play against his friends. He would be killed by Koki if he lost and he would never be able to see Jin again.
With a light dong, the elevator pulled opened and they exited it, calmly walking towards that room where Kame’s life would be decided from now on. The closer they went to it, the tenser Kame became. He wasn’t ready, and he would never be.
He was unready to lose Jin yet. He had finally found someone who he loved in this world and he didn’t want to lose that precious person again like he had lost his family. He wanted to live his life alongside Jin.
“The other three players are already inside the room.” One of the maintainers said as they stood in front of the door and finally, they turned the doorknob.
Inside the room stood Koki who was avoiding his gaze and around the table where the Kalooki game would take place sat Junno, Ueda, Ryo and Yuu. He would be competing against them and the one who won would go inside that room where the king was waiting.
The others would be killed by Koki, by their own friend. How barbarous would that be?
The game begun and the old men at the other side of the room were sitting and had already decided whom they going to bet on. Kame settled himself on a stool that was empty, waiting for him. The cards were shared on the table; each one of them held 12 cards aside from Ueda’s 13 cards as the game started from his side.
The more players joining the Kalooki game, the harder it was to win. Kame’s mind wavered and reminiscence took over him. Memories of Koki’s laughers, Ace and the Queen’s lame arguments and Junno’s boring puns, all clouded his mind and made it hard for him to concentrate on the game. Yet, he tried to remember Jin. He had to win the game to be able to be by Jin’s side, to take revenge for his beloved family.
He wasn’t playing for his sake. He was doing it for his dearest.
He had to win the game for his most precious peoples’ sake.
After what seemed to be like an eternity, the intense game came to an end and Kame won the round, which meant that the other three were to be killed. Loud cheers were heard from the old men who had laid their bet on Kame and without any further delay; one of the maintainers came by his side and told him to move to the next room for the final game against the king.
Kame glanced at the other three players and saw them looking at him with smiles on their faces, as if cheering for him to win the game against the king and Kame felt his heart break into millions of pieces. They were like family to him, saying goodbye to him with a smile gracing their faces destroyed Kame from the inside. His legs were unable to make a move as he stood and kept looking at them. This would be the last time he would be seeing their faces. He had to memorize their smiles and every of their features and crave them into his mind so he wouldn’t be missing anything out.
“Let’s go, the king is waiting.”
They were smiling, until the very last glimpse Kame had of them.
They walked through a long hall at the end of which Kame could see the door of the room where the king was. He wasn’t ready for another game yet, they didn’t give him any time to even breathe. He wasn’t in any state to play another game after what he had just faced.
But it wasn’t as if the mafia cared about their feelings. They were like objects, deck cards that were to be thrown the second they weren’t needed anymore.
They soon reached the room and it was opened by one of the maintainers. Kame hesitated to enter it. He had bad feelings.
It was a small room, smaller than the one he was in before. There was a table in the middle with only two chairs only. One was empty and other was occupied by someone.
Kame gasped as he realized who the one sitting on the chair was. No this couldn’t be, Kame wished from all his heart that what he was seeing was only made up by his mind. He used to hallucinate before while being drunk so maybe he was this time as well but without any alcohol in his system. Otherwise, Jin wouldn’t be sitting in there. He wouldn’t be looking this emotionless, and he wouldn’t be eyeing him as if they hadn’t been in each other’s arms just yesterday.
Life couldn’t be this hard on him, could it? They usually told him that after the difficult times, the beautiful moments were awaiting so why was this happening to him? Had he done something horrible to deserve this torture?
Jin was the king
Jin had known all along that he would be competing against Kame today. Had the other been using him to mess his mind up so Kame would lose the game? Could Jin be that heartless?
Tons of questions filled Kame’s obscure mind and left him dumbstruck. A sudden unbearable pain cut through his heart and he felt like he would throw up soon.
Why was the word that kept repeating itself in his mind and he could no longer perceive anything was said to him anymore. He heard voices talking, he heard them calling for him but he couldn’t utter a word.
He had been playing the game for Jin’s sake, to be able to live with Jin and now, he needed to compete against the older man. What was left in his life without Jin being in it? Kame had never thought a person could be stripped from absolutely everything that was precious to him to this extent.
“Kame,” he heard someone saying his name. It was Koki who came to stand by his side and was holding his shoulders tightly. “Get a gripe of yourself!”
He was a human being with feelings. He was hurt. He was betrayed by the person he loved the most. How could he pull himself together and pretend that nothing had happened?
Loud protests were heard from the old men who were waiting for the game to start. Their amusement was spoiled because of Kame’s humanity.
The game had to start, thought Kame and he walked with unsteady feet towards the stool and sat on it. The cards were shared as soon as he settled down and the game finally begun.
Jin looked cold. It wasn’t like him at all. The Jin he loved was an idiot with more of an idiotic grin on his face. Kame had never suspected the king who had won a lot of games before would be his lover, his Jin.
The one who was an idiot was Kame instead.
His eyes blurred and he couldn’t concentrate on the cards longer. Kame inhaled deeply and blinked a few times to clear his vision. He was a man and he needed to take control of the situation. Yet, his heart and mind were both against him as memories of Jin flashed in his mind and they were beautiful. They were like a dream, too good to be true.
He was losing the game.
Calmly, Jin put his last card on the table and smirked. He won.
The game was over.
It happened in the blink of an eye and before everything turned black for Kame, three words were mouthed for him by Jin.
I love you.
Kame smiled and closed his eyes.

He could hear a soft melodic voice singing beside him. He knew whom it belonged to, his most beloved person. His mind was fogged but that voice was bringing him closer and closer to consciousness and he felt himself relieved. He was afraid of facing whatever was out there for him but as long as he had his beloved by his side, everything would turn out fine. He needed nothing other than the other’s presence.
He missed him. He wanted to see his face.
“It’s time for you to wake up, lovely,” the soft voice muttered close to his face. He could feel the other’s breathing mixed with his own.
He smiled and finally opened his eyes. The sight was bright and beautiful and he welcomed it. He had his beloved by his side and the other was gorgeous. He held his hand up and caressed the other’s warm skin.
“I love you too.”
The other smiled and it was happiness. Whether it was dream or reality, he no longer cared.
It was beautiful.

Sakura felt herself sniffing. She had always been sensitive when it came to love stories and this one was no exception. It was her 18th birthday and finally, she was allowed to read it. Her father used to read it briefly to her when she was little but left out the unnecessary parts such as the love making which Sakura found utterly passionate after she read it just a while ago.
She stood up, strode out of her room and went downstairs to where both her mother and father were.
“Daddy!, I just finished reading it,” she announced and sniffed lightly.
The father laughed at his daughter’s stained with tears face. “Was their story that touching?”
“Of course it was, I want a lover as Uncle Jin~!”
The father snored. “As if I’d allow you to date such a player, if it wasn’t for Kame, he would’ve become a male whore.”
“Koki, Watch your mouth.” Sakura saw her mother scolding her father and she smiled at the sight of them.
“Father, when will Uncle Jin and uncle Kame visit us next time?” She missed them very much. They used to play with her a lot when she was little, especially Uncle Jin. He was Sakura’s first crush. Sakura blushed as she remembered how she used to behave whenever he was around.
“Kame called me a few minutes ago and they’re now in France. They like to travel a lot.” Her father appeared to be envious of them, she giggled.
Her father was one important member of a mafia organization that used to be very powerful back in the days. It was called the Kalooki club and he had been the Joker in there. He had told her how much they had gone through and how many important friends they had lost because of the game until they had finally planned to put an end to it.
It had been set with the help of Uncle Jin. He had been the king of the hearts and had more influence and power than the other players. Despite his idiotic personality, as her father had said, Uncle Jin was strong but because life had never mattered to him, he hadn’t been willing to go through the process of stopping the game until Uncle Kame had come into the picture. Uncle Jin had told her father that Uncle Kame had changed him and he had finally found someone he could protect. That was why Uncle Kame had been one of the few players who hadn’t been aware of the master plan the groups had set up against the fonder. Uncle Jin had wanted his lover out of the picture so that if they were to be discovered, uncle Kame would still have been safe and alive even if all of them were to die.
On the competition date, everything had come to an end. The fonder and his fellow guys had been killed and finally, the players had been set free. No more betting on their lives as they had all come to realize how precious life was.
As for the revenge uncle Kame had wanted to take against that mafia who killed his family, Uncle Jin had already taken care of it.
Sakura wanted someone who would love her to this extent, to the point of setting his life in danger for her own safety.
Their love story sounded like a fairy tale. It was Sakura’s most favorite tale.
