Cell phone lodged in woman's throatThe Kansas City StarA Blue Springs woman was taken to a hospital emergency room early today after a cell phone became lodged in her throat when she tried to swallow it.
The woman got into an argument with a boyfriend, and when he asked for the cell phone, she gulped it down, said Sgt. Steve Decker of the Blue Springs Police Department.
"She didn't want him to have it, so she swallowed the phone, or at least she tried to," Decker said.
Police responded to the call about a non-breathing person about 4:50 a.m. in the 3000 block of Southwest U.S. 40, he said. Police arrived and found the 24-year-old woman was having trouble breathing. Her identity was not released.
The woman was taken to the emergency room at St. Mary's Hospital in Blue Springs. She still had the telephone in her throat upon arrival at the hospital, Decker said.
A condition report was not available. But Decker said the woman apparently was going to be OK.
This was the first case of an ingested cell phone for Blue Springs police, he said.
