“So…” Aiba began, rubbing the palms of his hands together, “Oh-chan.”
“Hmm?” Ohno looked up from his clay. He had a streak of black smeared across the bridge of his nose. Aiba wiped it off for him, causing Ohno’s nose to crinkle. Jun rolled his eyes, but couldn’t contain the smile threatening to break through.
“What do you want to do for your birthday?” Aiba asked as he threw the rag in the sink and sat back down.
“Mmm…”
“We could go on the boat if you want. I know you’ve been itching to go.” Jun clasped a firm hand on Ohno’s shoulder.
“Mmm…”
“Or!” Aiba bounced on the stool, “Or, we could go to the carnival that’s coming into town!”
“Ohno hates noise and crowds, Aiba-chan.”
“But- ”
“Pineapple.”
Both Aiba and Jun turned to stare at the smaller man. Jun coughed.
“I’m sorry, what?”
“I-I want a pineapple cake.”
“That’s great Oh-chan! But we need to figure out what to do for your birthday party.”
“C-could we have one here?”
“Satoshi…” Jun sighed, “We’ve had one here for the last five years. I know it’s hard to move on, but I mean, don’t you want to get some fresh air? If you keep looking towards the past, you’re never going to see the future.”
“MatsuJun’s right, Oh-chan. We should go out.” Aiba nudged Ohno affectionately.
“I know,” Ohno stared at his lap, “B-but I want it to be a joint party- a birthday and a welcome party. Why not do it h-here?”
“You mean you want to share your birthday with Nino?” Jun looked horrified, “Ohno-kun, it’s your birthday! He doesn’t need a welcoming party!”
“I want to p-properly welcome him into our f-family… and to a-apologize.”
Jun’s jaw was clenched. Aiba’s eyes volleyed back and forth nervously, hoping Jun’s anger would dissipate. After all, birthdays were supposed to be a happy occasion.
A snappy retort was on the tip of Jun’s tongue, but he settled for a curt fine and gave Aiba a look. Pinching the bridge of his nose, Jun walked out of the kitchen.
“Don’t worry about him, Oh-chan. He’ll come around.” Aiba patted Ohno’s back.
-
“This is unbelievable!” Jun growled. He kicked his door open and yelped in surprise at the sight of Sho eating grapefruit. Juice was dribbling down the side of his lip.
“What’s wrong?” Sho asked, absentmindedly wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. He got up from the floor and sat beside a thoroughly beaten Matsumoto on the bed.
“Nino,” he spat. He laid a head on Sho’s shoulder only for it to slide off. “You really do have sucky shoulders.”
“Shut-up,” he elbowed Jun lightly, “No, but really, what’s wrong?”
“Ohno-kun wants to share his birthday with Nino. He wants us to throw a welcoming party for him!” Jun threw his hands up in irritation. “I know he feels bad that he scared Nino, but that doesn’t mean he has to apologize with a freaking party!”
“Jun,” Sho’s voice was gentle, “Do you really hate Nino that much?”
“Yes,” he let out a sigh, “No, I mean, I don’t know. It’s just he’s always finding some way to bother me and the way he looks at Ohno and I- I mean, ugh!”
Sho placed a comforting arm around the younger man.
“I know you love him, but don’t you think it’s about time you stop protecting Satoshi-kun? He can’t be sheltered forever.”
“No,” Jun gave a childish pout.
“Jun,” His voice was much more stern, “I know you owe him your life, but really, he needs to find himself again. I really think Nino is what he needs. What we all need. A fresh face is doing us a lot of good. I haven’t seen Masaki this happy in a long time. Just…just give him a chance alright?”
Silence filled the room.
Slowly, Jun nodded. Sho gave a small smile and a patted the man’s back in approval.
“Thank you, Ma-chan.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Jun grumbled, “Wait,” his head jerked to face Sho, “What are you doing in my room?”
Sho let out a nervous laugh.
“I, well, you know…” Leaping off the bed, Sho lunged for the grapefruit and bolted out the door. Jun, too tired, fell back on to his bed.
He sighed and looked at his ceiling ruefully, “Why am I friends with crazy people?”

Nino slapped a hand on his alarm clock for the fourth time. He had been counting the days until his first day off and now that it was finally here, he was going to sleep for as long as he damn well pleased.
Snuggling up into the covers, Nino turned on his side and curled his lips into a feline-like smirk. Rain was pouring heavily down the windowsill, making it impossible for Nino to see into the office building next door. He didn’t really mind; he wasn’t in the mood to tease the balding man who usually sat right by the window. Nino yawned, and, clutching his pillow, fell back asleep.
When Nino awoke, his vision was obscured by chestnut brown hair. Hmm?
Upon further inspection, he found Ohno sleeping on a chair, his head resting on the side of the bed. Not sure of what to do, and slightly panicked, Nino coughed loudly. Slowly, Ohno’s eyes fluttered open.
“Huh?” Ohno rubbed his sleepy eyes. He blinked slowly, trying to recognize his surroundings. When he caught sight of Nino, his eyes grew large and a small blush rested on his round cheeks.
“Umm…” Nino was at a loss for words. I mean what do I say? “Hey what the hell are you doing in my room? I thought you hated me.”
“I-I… Sho… and he, I mean, dinner… it-it’s ready and I w-was supposed to,” Ohno’s blush grew bigger. He lowered his head and mumbled into his lap, “c-come and g-get you.”
“Oh.” Nino knew he should be grateful that Ohno wasn’t here to fire him, but he couldn’t help it. He laughed. Loudly. He didn’t mean to, but Ohno looked so embarrassed and so cute that Nino couldn’t think of anything else but how badly he wanted to pinch his rosy cheeks.
Pull yourself together! You’re scaring him.
Ohno, confused, just pouted and sat in silence.
“I-I’m sorry,” Nino wiped a tear from his eye. Maybe he laughed a little too much. Maybe. “I just wasn’t expecting that. I thought you were here to give me the boot.”
“B-boot?” Ohno tilted his head, “W-what boot?”
Nino suppressed a giggle. Oh-chan was funny.
“I mean, I thought you were here to fire me.”
“Why?”
“D-don’t you hate me?” Nino bit his lip. He immediately regretted asking such a stupid question. He lowered his head, hoping that would lessen the blow. Of course he doesn’t like me. I don’t do much, I complain all the time, and I pinned him against a wall.
“No!” Ohno clapped a hand over his mouth. He was too loud. Shocked, Nino looked up at him with equally wide eyes.
“Y-you… don’t?”
“N-no.” Ohno replied, this time with a softer voice. He was scared. He never talked this much.
“Oh,” was all Nino could say. The two sat there, the soft ticking of the clock filling the room. Ohno’s eyes were different again. They were warmer, brighter like a light flickering ever so slightly in the darkness. It looked a little like hope.
Suddenly, they heard a muffled shout of Nino! Get your sleepy ass down here! The food’s already cold and- Aiba! What are you- You are not putting that anywhere near my dinner!
Nino smirked. Pushing Jun’s buttons was fun. He looked back at Ohno.
“I think we got off on the wrong start,” he stuck out his hand, “I’m Ninomiya Kazunari.”
Slowly, Ohno reached out to grab Nino’s hand. An electric shock raced throughout Nino’s entire body and he could hear himself gasp in surprise. His fingers felt white hot against Ohno’s and he had to grab the sheets to keep his pulse in check.
“O-ohno S-satoshi.” Ohno released his hand and rushed through the door without a second glance. Dumbfounded, Nino just sat there and tried to calm himself down. W-what just happened?

Author's Note: SORRY. No, seriously, SORRY! I feel like I gypped people out of something. Like an awful commercial on T.V. that offers a product for twenty dollars only for it to break as soon as you receive it. Again, this story is going on hiatus, but I will eventually come back to it when I feel more confident as a writer. I really am a noob. Like seriously, this is my first fanfiction. Ever.
