A Dead Willie

On my earlier post about the drink I totally forgot about the fact that I ended a life today.

About a block away from work I saw this little squirrel running across the oncoming lanes of traffic. All of a sudden, he darts towards my lanes, hops the median, and the next thing I know, I ran him over. I didn't have any time to stop and I was in the outside lane next to the sidewalk with a car to my left, so I couldn't move out of the way. It was so sad to feel the tiny thud under the tire and see his dead little reflection in my rear view mirror. I felt horrible; what a way to start the workday.

On the other hand, I am happy he wasn't left in the road flopping around, half dead. I think I smashed his tiny little head so it was an instant death. I think the squirrel looked like a Willie. Hopefully I won't have any bad dreams where Willie comes back to haunt me. All day at work today everyone was calling me a squirrel killer!

On a side note, has anyone out there seen the movie Death Race 2000? We own it on DVD and it is a must see. It is a cheesy 70's movie where Sly Stallone plays a futuristic racecar driver. The point of this race it to travel across the country with other drivers, hitting as many people as you can. You get different points based on the gender, age, and ability of the person. I wonder how many points Willie would have gotten? I am thinking maybe two.
