Sometimes, the things that go on in this city make me sick.
It's only my third day on duty as a Knight-Lord and I am beginning to regret my decision to not follow Tandem along on his trip out to sea when he left the other day... It would have been a lot more productive. And a million times more enjoyable.
But the complete lack of justice that happens in this city... it's sickening. It makes me wonder why even continue to even try and uphold peace here. We arrest a highly dangerous individual and have to go through six hours of torture... and they get a slap on the wrist and let go.
So, it all began in Orgrimmar. I don't really know what started it, or why, but I had heard from both Commander Illu'noir and Eldafel that assistance was needed in apprehending a dangerous villian. Kind of odd to be in Orgrimmar, but I headed out to assist regardless.
I arrived on the scene to see Eldafel taking the priestess Lacryma into custody, aided with an orc from the city guard. Also there were Illu'noir, Sang'jour, the tauren Chieftain Goretotem, and Magister Venrome. Apparently Lacryma was being arrested for assaulting some goblin, and two other priestesses.. Eviee and Da'sirae.
After insuring Eldafel had secured her properly, the two of us used one of Venrome's ports to return her to Silvermoon City. She was going to go on an immediate trial for her crimes.
Upon our arrival, we called for back up from Knight-Lord Kenrethad and Commander Bloodstrider. We escorted Lacryma to the top floor of the Inn at Fairbreeze Village to wait for the trial to begin. Venrome ordered us to stay and act as guards. At first I was really excited - it was after all our first major job as a new regiment. So the four of us gladly gathered around to fulfill our duty.
(Guard Duty is Fun!....Not!)
Then the people began to arrive. Magisters, Priestesses, Farstriders, Illuminati, the Retainers, Chieftan Goretotem, Jadoth.... and I swear I even caught glimpses of a Cultist or two... it seems like most of the population of Silvermoon had arrived.
The trial began with Venrome acting as the main prosecutor. We escorted Lacryma to the front of the room and situated ourselves to either side of her. The head magister began by going over the different crimes the priestess was being accused of.
(Hey look, Venrome matches us! He should join the order... )
One by one, he called forth witness to describe their ordeals with Lacryma. And my gods... I have never seen so many long-winded people in my entire life. One hour ticked by, then two.. then three... and we were only four witnesses into the trial, and still had at the very least four more who wanted to testify! Including Goretotem and Illu'noir herself.
I kinda feel sorry for Sang'jour. He got the job of having to speak personally to each witness after they testified, and on Venrome's orders - use his powers to see into the minds of the witness to ensure they were speaking the truth. He spoke to me afterwards and said that he saw some very horrible things when having to verify their testimony. It really bothered him.
(Whee, look at all the people. Also, Knight-Lord Kenrethad needs a better matching cloak!)
Time continued to tick by. Four hours. Then five. I've been trained to stand for long periods, but rarely does it ever pass the three hour mark. I could feel my knees growing weak from having barely moved, and all my armor wasn't helping. A quick look around to the other members of my regiment confirmed they weren't faring so well either. Kenrethad looked like he was about to topple over backwards.. Bloodstrider was trying to keep from falling asleep standing up, and I had to continuously jab Eldafel in the arm to keep him quiet, as he was about ready to kill someone.
(Chieftain Goretotem and the Crimson Illuminati)
Time grew to be too long, and both Illu'noir and Goretotem had to take their eventual leaves without giving their testimony. Slowly the 40 or so trickled down to less then twenty.
Finally, Lacryma was given the stand, and she called upon one of her own witnesses... an orc of some kind. By this time, I didn't care anymore. I just wanted it to end.
Six hours.
Oh dear gods, someone shoot me now.
Halfway into the six hour mark, Venrome finally gave the decision for the Magister's to come to a vote over Lacryma's fate. There were six magister's present. Slowly.... ever.... so.... slowly..... the votes were tallied.
(The Magisters preparing to take the votes.)
4-2 Guilty.
It was over... oh gods, it was finally over. Or... I thought it was.
Venrome then had the job of handing down sentance... things kinda blacked out for me, but the decision was eventually made to give her 2 weeks city arrest. So no leaving Silvermoon for that period of time.
.........That was it?
Almost seven hours...... for that? She brutally raped people's minds, she mutilated others and left them a bloody mess, and then went through a torturous seven hour trial for a slap on the wrist?
.......
Needless to say, all four of us were disgusted. We finished out our duty - escorting Lacryma to the city.. but we ditched her after we got there, and headed to the Enclave. Eldafel was so angered by the ruling that he went off on his own, smashing his communicator out of anger. We arrived in the Enclave and pretty much collapsed due to exhaustion and soreness from standing that long.
(Aww, three exhausted little Blood Knights. )
After resting for a while, Bloodstrider & Kenrethad left to go home. I should have as well, but I couldn't... it's been a lonely place the last few nights.
I wandered around the Enclave a bit more before finally finding Eldafel huddled up in a corner. The two of us had a talk about what we really thought of the city, our thoughts for the future, and why we keep moving forward as Blood Knights.
When he mentioned sleep though... I made the mistake of saying how much I missed it, now that the nightmares have returned.
Yes.. I've my whole life with dealing with nightmares every night... but I eventually grew to accept them and they never really bothered me that much. But then Tandem and Unmei came along in my life, and the nightmares lessened.. even disappeared entirely, and I got used to that very fast. But with Unmei staying in Dalaran for research and Tandem out to sea.. they've returned with a vengeance. They're more vivid and violent then they've ever been before, and honestly I've gotten to the point where I've been unnerved about even falling asleep. Sleep deprivation made it even hard to enjoy Club Trix the other night.
Well... I do believe Eldafel was worried about me. A little. Sorta. After I mentioned my nightmare problems well.... I got a dart in the neck and a warning I had ten minutes to get to a bed before I would fall into a dreamless sleep for twelve hours. I could have punched him and hugged the man at the same time. But I instead chose to get back to my apartment as soon as possible.
I made it, and indeed I slept just as peacefully as I had when I had someone by my side. But now I am worried that perhaps I will be come addicted to whatever drug it is Eldafel slipped me.
Sigh.
If I do, I really will punch him.
