[Durdanios] (Short Story) Disease

Durdanios yelled and slammed a plated fist into the wooden paneling in front of him, creating a small dent in the wall.

Fucking hell.

He had just returned from his long journey, having flown all over Azeroth's seas, from Kalimdor to Eastern Kingdoms to Northrend. He flew to the Maelstrom and had just barely survived a run-in with the Aspect of Death himself, though his beloved netherdrake was not so fortunate. Somehow he ended up in Deepholme, burns covering most of his body and completely lost and unaware of his surroundings.

And the search for Tandem had turned up nothing.

It was his brother Vynirin who had found him, huddling in rocky corner of Deepholme. Vynirin healed his wounds and comforted him over both the death of his drake and the fact his search wound up fruitless. It took Durdanios several days for him to fully overcome his wounds, both mentally and physically, before he was able to return to work at the Encalve.

And here he was. Alone.

While he had been gone, a disease had spread throughout Azeroth like wildfire, killing hundreds and making thousand sick with everything from cough, to fever to hallucinations.

And his regiment had it.

Commander Bloodstrider and Knight Sunfalcon came down with it first. They were placed in Quarantine in the Filthy Animal in Dalaran. Eldafel had insisted that the two of them go visit their sick Knights.

Duo was hesitant. He remembered a minor illness sweeping through Silvermoon once before and the home he lived in with his adoptive father was a quarantine house. While the illness was not life threatning, it was keeping the majority of their troops off the battlefield so the less that contracted it the better. Remembering all the people laying sick in their home... he didn't want it happening to him or any more members of his regiment.

But it did.

Both of the Knight-Lords were tested for the disease. Durdanios was negative. Vynirin was positive. Two of them entered the building, but only one of them walked out.

Returning to the Eastern Kingdoms, he rented a wyvern and flew out to Hearthglen, where he was currently pacing back and forth. He stopped and slammed his fist into the wall again before falling to his knees.

Why now?
