Hands swept hair from her face and a bristled chin brushed against her cheek.

“Where did you go?”

The hand became arms around her shoulders, and the chin became a warm soft head, leaning gently on hers.

“You felt like home.”

The lips found her neck, and felt wet.

“Leave me alone.”

The lips dropped again, cold and wet on her neck.

“I said…” As a finger dragged along her collar bone and a nose dipped into her hair, the tortured woman whirled around in a furious roar.

“LEAVE ME ALONE!”

Roads opened her eyes to a snicker. She looked up, and Blair was hovering over with a sweaty bottle of liquid. She cringed.

“Sorry, couldn’t resist,” she said with a grin. Roads mouth was dry and her reply came out rough.

“Ew, gross, what if I had peed?” She began to rub her eyes, and Blair sat down in the seat next to her at the table. Blair had finally found her in the council room, dozing with her head resting on her hand over two or three documents opened on her PADD. Blair decided to come back with food and water to surprise her.

“I think that’s only warm water,” replied Blair, she passed a plate to Roads, topped with rice and raw fish.

“What is this?” she asked.

“This is,” began Blair as she began portioning a piece onto her fork. “the Enterprise replicator’s version of chirashi. Kind of a caserole version of sushi.”

Roads stared at it. “Oh what the hell.” She pretended to smash her face into the food, then turned politely to Blair and asked, “Could I have a fork, please?”

“Here you go, dear,” she passed her a fork.

“Thanks.”

“Have you gotten any sleep at all since the banquet?” asked Blair, in between bites.

“Weeeeell,” Roads swallowed her food before replying. “Not really, no.”

“That’s not good.”

“Hey, you woke me.”

“And I brought you food.”

“And I thank you.”

Roads continued eating and Blair began organizing her food according to fish type.

“So what did Lauren have to say?” asked Blair.

“I’m not at liberty to discuss.”

“She likes him, too, huh?”

“Mmmmmm,” Roads stuffed her face with rice and chewed the longest she could before swallowing, all the while Blair smiling and watching her.

“What do you think about Kirk?” asked Blair. Roads swallowed the last bit, covering her mouth with the back of her hand.

“What do YOU think of Kirk?” Roads muffled out.

“He’s,” Blair kind of smiled and giggled. “He’s kind of hot.”

“He is kind of hot,” agreed Roads. “He’s also kind of an ass.”

“I concur,” Blair consented. “A great ass.”

“Amen.”

“In fact, I caught you staring at it.”

“You’re a liar.”

“No, but I can read all of it,” Blair stated, and dropped her fork to exaggerate with her hands a cloud over her. “ALL OF IT. And as much as you think he’s ass, I know you know that he is. I know that you know that you think he‘s awfully attractive.”

“My pheromones are betrayers,” Roads disagreed.

“Your pheromones are your most loyal subjects, lovely,” said Blair. Roads gave a heavy terrible sigh.

“He hates you,” said Blair. Roads furrowed her brows.

“I know what‘s coming,” Roads dropped her spoon immediately.

“Oh but he waaa-”

Roads covered her ears immediately.

“LALALALALA.”

“-aaaants you,” finished Blair, poking her with her fork.

“I wish I had pheronmone powers,” threatened Roads. “So I could poke you with a fork.”

“Fork you.”

“Fork me.”

Groaning, leaning, stretching.

It was clear Jim Kirk was ready to go, but no one could force him to finally end his shift. Both Spock and Sulu tried in vain to influence a decision to hit the hay. Kirk refused to both subtlety and honesty. He could not rest until his ship was in order again, and no one could make him do otherwise. Except Leonard McCoy, of course, who barged into the Engineering room screaming at him like a lover who just discovered his wife was cheating on him with his brother. He probably would’ve thrown him onto the bed too, if Kirk wasn’t so aware of what the neighbors would say.

“Oh shut up, you love what the ‘neighbors would say.’ Go to fucking bed,” ordered McCoy before leaving him in front of his door to his quarters. Kirk was tired, but not tired enough to keep from grinning at the snide remark. He opened the door to his chambers and began stripping as he made his way to the bed. No sooner did the weight of him sink in the mattress did he feel the weight change in response. He paused. Then jumped when he felt a foot nudge his thigh.

A woman.

In his bed.

That’s like Christmas.

A sly smile grew on his face as he slowly and quietly eased into the bed next to her, careful not to wake her, simply to curve his frame to her from behind. He traced his finger tips along her arm, and brushed her hair away from her face, oddly enough, smelling his shampoo in her hair. She must’ve taken a shower in his bathroom. It was still damp on the pillow where her head rested, and he figured it must not have been too long ago. He wondered how he should wake her.

Kirk didn’t want to be a cad, but he didn’t want to be too affectionate either, so he kissed her neck softly, then bit gently.

“..quit it,” she whispered groggily. He grinned tiptoeing his fingers around her waist.

“…fer serious, jack,” she whispered again, and Kirk stopped.

“Jack?” he questioned in a normal voice.

One whole second.

And the woman under the covers was on her feet screaming, and soon he was screaming, not really words so much as obscenties at each other.

“WHAT THE FUCKING SHIT?!”

“FUCKING FUCK FUCK WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!”

“I WAS TOLD TO USE THIS ROOM WHAT THE FUCKING HELL ARE YOU DOING HERE?!”

“THIS IS MY FUCKING ROOM!”

“FUCKING-!” Roads bit her lip and just made a loud angry sound between grinding teeth. It was evident to Kirk now as he was standing on the opposite side of the bed from Roads, that she had never intended to sleep in his room and use his shower. She was clutching the sheet from his bed around her possessively, looking totally tangled and just a little bit hot. “Look, my mistake,” for some reason honesty was coming out of her mouth, and Kirk wasn’t used to that. “I’ll just get my things and go.”

Roads began picking up her collected dirty clothes from the corner, pulled the sheet over her whle body, scrambling to get her skirt and shirt on. As Kirk watched her, it became apparent that she was incredible weak and the fatigue was beginning to have an effect on the color in the bending of her muscles that were peeking out from under the sheet..

“No,” he found himself saying. “Look, uh, we can share the room. Sleep on the bed. I’ll sleep on the couch.”

Roads stopped, pulling the sheet over her head to look at him. “Are you sure?” No he isn’t sure, she thought to herself. Why are you asking this. Just say no and get out of here as quick as possible. “No, I’m outta here.” She jammed her feet into her boots and headed for the door.

“No, no, no, no,” Kirk cut her off at the pass. “I can sleep with someone else.”

Roads gave him a weird look, and he rephrased that.

“I can crash at McCoy’s. It won’t be a problem.”

She continued her confused stare.

“C’mon, you’re right, you are visitors, our guests. Sleep in my cabin. For tonight, and I’ll sleep somewhere else.”

“No, thank you,” said Roads, and she headed past him toward the door again. Kirk couldn’t put into words how frustrating it was to talk to this woman.

“That’s my sheet!” He called out as the door slid open. Roads threw it into his face violently, blocking his view of her putting on her last remaining garment, her coat.

“It’s been a pleasure,” she said dismissively, and the door closed behind her leaving a tired, defeated, angry Captain behind. He threw the sheet to the floor and headed toward the fridge. He opened the beer on the way to the shower and drank it as the hot water hit his shoulders.

“Miss. Rand.”

The woman with blonde hair from before turned to her name being called to see the clean Captain of the Elyssa in visably dirty clothes before her.

“Captain Watson,” she began.

“Yeah, um, what room did you say I could stay in?” asked Roads, carefully trying not to sound angry, but neither pleased.

“Room C57,” answered Rand.

“Yeah, um, are you sure that was a vacated room, because that was definitely the captain’s quarters,” replied Roads, still snarrky but she tried to hide it. She really was, even though every part of her wanted to shake this woman. It wasn’t her fault, it wasn’t her fault.

“Yeah, I’m pretty sure it was,” she said as he started scanning down her PADD. “Oh! No, God, I’m sorry, I meant to say C67!”

Roads sighed, now realizing she was holding it back for a while.

“I’m sorry,” she apologized. “Really? How did you know? Did he barge in on you naked or like-”

“No, um,” Roads found words to describe what happened. “There was an altercation, but uh, I’m fine. Thank you.”

“Are you sure?” she asked, concerned.

“No, it’s okay.” Roads nodded. “Thank you, Miss Rand.”

As Roads began walking away, Rand turned back to the blonde nurse who leaned over and said quietly to her.

“Did you set her up on purpose?” Rand grinned at her slyly in response, but shrugged in response.
