feels like karma

Over the past few weeks I've been reading a lot of African American literature. Obviously this is because I'm taking a module in it, but it's been very interesting timing. I started off with Frederick Douglass, the ex-slave turned author and scholar, Harriet Wilson, and moved on to people like Booker T Washington and W.E.B. DuBois. Up through ( Read more... )

The Prop 8 result is just so disheartening. WHY? Just - and in California - how? Why? What the hell?! Get over the sexuality stuff, people, it doesn't fucking matter! Focus on your crashing economy or other things that are ACTUALLY IMPORTANT and not just a part of day to day life!

Yeah, it's pretty amazing, but it's still a gradual change. There are people who are still racist and still don't like black people, but they voted for Obama anyway. They just decided that his being black was less important than other stuff, not that it wasn't still a problem. The number of black people voting was hugely increased, which is great, but it doesn't indicate a change of attitudes, it's just different people voting.

Sarah Palin doesn't seem to be going anywhere. There's already lots of talk about her being in the race for 2012...

Well, yes, I did mention the KKK in the post - of course there are still racists and bigots out there, and yeah, I read an article about white supremacists who voted for Obama over McCain. It's, uh - well, these people sort of suck with logic at the best of times, to be fair.

Dude, Sarah Palin will *not* be running in 2012. There's no way they'd let her; she was a liability as a running mate, but imagine as a proper candidate? Noooo... McCain won't run again, I dn't think, 'cos he made himself look a bit like Elmer Fudd this time 'round, trying to get that damn wabbit. I'm sure someone will crop up... like acne...

Well, it all depends what happens internally with the republicans. Palin was a bit of a liability in some respects, but she was very popular with the hardcore republican base (which was part of the reason she was picked, with McCain being considered more of a moderate...)

There's a list of other ballots here. Aside from California and Arkansas, Arizona and Florida have also voted to ban gay marriage (the Arkansas thing was about unmarried adoption, as it says in the article you linked, which is still a gay issue). The Colorado vote on affirmative action is too close to call still, but Nebraska has voted to get rid of it.

I'm still waiting to hear about Missouri and North Carolina...

I know :(

I am so, *so* disappointed on that. Really extremely disappointed, especially in California of all f'ing places! Just NO.

Now please can someone start Proposition 9 - overturning Proposition 8?

If they don't, I am so going to start a petition that they do.

I might have squids on the mind.

Dexter Season 2 rocks. I hear there's enough material for three more series.
