(no subject)

Just been to see the most intriguing production of Hamlet :D I had initally opted not to go, on the principal that I seem to spend the vast proportion of my time at Shakespearean plays trying to get used the language, and then just when I'm getting the hang of it, the play's over! Anyway, friend emailed me this afternoon and said one of the people going was sick, and did I want to go instead. Figured I ought to, as "best friend" (whom I haven't actually talked to in a few weeks, definitely not since I got back from my trip last week - which is the subject of a whole other gripefest :p ), was going, and it might be nice to catch up.
It was at the local professional theatre - they do a great job, and the theatre itself is tiny! The actors were basically in my lap for the whole performance :p Needless to say I enjoyed it immensely (and not only because Hamlet was cute and he had the best ass-enhancing pants on! Think White-pants-of-doom! *giggles* and he spent a fair bit of time standing over by me facing the stage....

*cough* erm, you've no one to blame but yourselves for reading up on my LJ! :p

Aaaaanyway, Hamlet (the actor) was fabulous - I have to admit, every time I knew one of " those" scenes was coming (the ones that you've heard in finitum :S ), my heart would sink a little, and then he'd get to it, and WOW, each and every scene he did really well, not really any big dramatic pauses, much more intimate and conversational, even the graveyard scene with Yorrick (don't even make me say the line :p ) was enjoyable!
So, overall, a very good time. Even is my ass is numb from 3 hours in a theatre seat. Oh, and anyone under the age of 21 should be duct taped, both their mouths and their hands and butts to the seats - the Manager had to come onstage at intermission and tell people to keep their goddamm asses in their seats and if they got up they wouldn't be coming back in..... (well, not in as many words, but you get the idea!). There was a fairly large group of teenagers there, and they were BAD theatre patrons *glare*
One of the theatre's new things is the first Monday of a new play they do a "post-production chat" ie. they drag everyone onto the stage and then sit around conversing with the audience. Poor Hamlet looked completely shattered, he was mostly incoherent, and looked like he needed a good lie down.....*innocent blinking* ;-) The Director had some interesting insights, and I enjoyed it immensely. I'm not convinced the actors had an equally good time :p It was a lot like a panel at the conventions really. Imagine being able to sit down with the entire cast and crew after an SG ep and chat about what you liked or didn't like, and if you thought the juxtaposition of modern and period costuming worked.... (this production had Hamlet and Laertes in modern suits, and the rest of the cast in stylised period costume - quite intriguing).

Right, must get some sleep, I'm still battling tinges of jetlag and trying to get lots of sleep to prevent any vestiges of con crud....
