Summary: Sooyoung and Yuri. Also known as the gag/violent pair. Always together, always causing trouble. But when true feelings begin to develop in one of them, how can anyone take her seriously? Especially when the one she loves thinks she is joking all the time?
--------------------
Sooyoung doesn't know the last time she spoke more than one word to Yuri. For the past few days she either says "hi" or "Yuri" and the only response she gets is silence as Yuri always passes her, avoiding any chances of conversation. It hurts Sooyoung knowing that Yuri is doing everything to ignore and avoid her. It was even worse when she could never get the chance to be paired with Yuri on any variety shows. Sooyoung either had horrible luck or this was karma's doing for hurting Yuri so badly. It made the Shikshin sad.
She misses her kkab sister. She misses her best friend.
She misses Kwon Yuri.
Currently, she was in a practice room with a piano in it at the SM Entertainment company. Sooyoung was with Seohyun, sitting on the floor ocassionally looking to watch the maknae play the piano. She chose to follow the maknae to the company because she felt too depressed at their dorm, especially since Yuri was there and she didn't want to be ignored... again.
Sooyoung sighs as she listens to the song Seohyun was playing. "Yah Maknae... Could you not play For Elise? I'm depressed enough as it is... Play something happier will ya?"
"But I like this song, Unnie," Seohyun calmly replies as she continues playing. "It relaxes my soul. And the song doesn't sound sad the entire time."
"Yeah it sounds 'happier' for like twenty seconds..." Sooyoung mutters under her breath.
From the corner of her eye, Seohyun observes Sooyoung's troubled and sadden expression. The maknae frowns and stops playing. Sooyoung looks at her friend in confusion when the song ceases. Seohyun shifts in her seat to face her unnie. "Still sad over Yuri Unnie?"
Sooyoung brings her knees to her chest and burries her face in slender arms. "...Isn't it obvious?" the Shikshin mumbles. Seohyun looks at her empathetically. "I'm honestly sorry about what I did to her," she puts in suddenly. "And I already knew an apology wasn't going to be enough to make amends. I just want to talk things out with Yuri but she keeps pushing me away..."
"But... are you ready to actually talk things out with her?" Seohyun asks quietly.
"What do you mean, Maknae?"
"Well... if you're going to talk things out with Yuri then sometime during your discussion you're going to have to... answer to her confession regarding her feelings towards you."
Sooyoung stays silent for a minute before replying. "There's no way she would still love me that way after what I did to her..."
"Do you know that for certain? To be honest, whether or not she still has feelings for you, you'll have to address to her confession at some point because, after all, your misunderstanding to Yuri Unnie's confession is what caused you two to be in this situation."
As much as she is relunctant to admit it, Sooyoung knows Seohyun is right. If Sooyoung ever wants to rebuild her relationship with Yuri, she's going to have to give Yuri an answer. But thinking about it now, Sooyoung's not even sure if she's ready to give her an answer.
Seohyun could tell Sooyoung was in deep thought. She exhales loudly. "Unnie, the other members, including me, have been wondering one thing." Sooyoung turns her head to face Seohyun, the maknae's eyes burning into her own.
"Do you love Yuri?"
Sooyoung's eyes widen and immediately she avoids Seohyun's painful gaze. "I... I... I don't know... As a friend, of course. But..." She trails off. Seohyun could not help but let out a soft chuckle. Sooyoung tilts her head in confusion. "Why are you laughing?"
"You know, Unnie, I think you do know the answer. Or rather, the answer is already inside of you but you have yet to realize that it is there."
"Umm... care to explain? I'm not following..."
"Remember when Yuri cut her ankle and she was forced to stay at the dorm that one day we had a variety show altogether?"
"Yeah. I remember being really sad that Yuri couldn't come because she had to be alone at the dorm and I was worried about her injury," Sooyoung thinks back. Then something clicks in her mind. "If I recall correctly, you mentioned something about my feelings developing inside me. I still don't understand what you mean."
Seohyun stands up from the chair and takes a seat next to her unnie. "You said you were sad and worried for Yuri at that time right?" Sooyoung nods. "Do you understand why you were?"
"What do you mean? I'm sure I wasn't the only one who felt that way. Didn't you and the others feel that way too?"
"We were all worried, yes... but to me you seemed to be worried about Yuri the most. You constantly insisted that day you remained with Yuri, completely putting aside your duty to represent So Nyuh Shi Dae at the variety show... all for Yuri."
"Well yeah... but.." Sooyoung trails off again.
"That night in the van I asked you if you were thinking of Yuri Unnie and I was right. Right?" Sooyoung slowly nods. "If you can, tell me how you felt that night. What was it like not having Yuri by your side?"
The Shikshin doesn't understand why Seohyun was asking her so many questions but she doesn't object nonetheless.
"Empty," Sooyoung tells her. "When we were on that variety show together and there were only eight of us... I felt empty." She stops but she could tell Seohyun was silently urging her to continue. Sooyoung sighs. "And well... because it was the fact Yuri wasn't there... I felt like a part of me was gone. We've been through a lot together so when we're apart it hurts... That's why we're best friends." Then Sooyoung frowns. "At least we used to be..."
"Is that all Yuri is to you?" When Sooyoung doesn't respond, Seohyun asks another question. "So when you saw Yuri after the show, how did you feel then?"
"Isn't it obvious? If I felt empty she wasn't there, then obviously I felt complete seeing her again," Sooyoung responds matter-of-fact.
"Then haven't you realized it yet?" Seohyun sighs.
"Realized what?"
"That you love Yuri. And no, just as a friend but something more," Seohyun adds.
Sooyoung blinks. "You think I love Yuri? In that way?"
Seohyun looks at her intensely. "Think about it Sooyoung. Just think about it. Why else would you feel so empty without Yuri? Why would you feel complete when you're around Yuri again? Why do you think you were so incredibly worried when you saw Yuri on the kitchen floor with blood-stained glass around her injured ankle? Why do you think you were so insistent on staying with Yuri and why you couldn't stop thinking about her when we were driving back to the apartment that night? Why do you think you were in cloud 9 when you saw Yuri again and she was by your side once again?" Seohyun pauses to breathe. "Why do you think you are so open, totally being yourself when you're with Yuri?
"And... why do you think it hurts so much knowing that Yuri cried because of you not realizing the truth of her confession? If you really don't love her that way... then you shouldn't be in so much pain as you are now. Yuri has more of a reason to be depressed than you, and yet you're looking just as miserable as she is.
"There is only one reason I can think of... and that is that you really do love Yuri. Can't you see yet?"
After listening to all the questions Seohyun bombarded on her, Sooyoung closes her eyes, trying to remember all the memories she's had with Yuri. 'I... love... Yuri...?' Sooyoung thinks
Suddenly, something inside her starts aching. It begins to hurt so bad, that for a moment Sooyoung couldn't breathe. Seohyung watches Sooyoung carefully. "Unnie?"
Although she doesn't understand completely what's happening inside her, Sooyoung knows one thing. "Seohyun...Maybe I... I think I really do love Yuri..." Sooyoung whispers so quietly, it was almost inaudible. Her eyes begin to water. "Why... why did it take me so long to realize that?"
Seohyun envelopes Sooyoung into a hug with Sooyoung embracing back. "I think your heart knew all along that you were in love with Yuri, but your mind was never connected with your heart so that's why you were oblivious to your own feelings. Now your heart is trying to make you realize what's deep inside you."
Seohyun hears Sooyoung chuckle softly. "You know Maknae, you're too wise to be the maknae." Sooyoung hugs Seohyun tighter. "Thank you, Seohyun. Really. I cannot thank you enough for what you've done for me."
Seohyun smiles. "I just don't like seeing you so sad, Unnie. It's not your character."
The Shikshin separates herself from Seohyun and stands up. "I need to see Yuri," she decides.
'
"Right now?"
Sooyoung nods and clutches the area where her heart is. "I finally know what my feelings are for Yuri. I know now that I'm ready to give her an answer."
"Go get her then, Unnie," Seohyun grins.
"You want to come back to the dorm with me?"
"I'm going to stay here a little longer to practice the piano. Go on without me."
"Alright. I'll see you later!" Sooyoung says before leaving the room.
'I know without a doubt that those two will be together. Sooyoung unnie and Yuri unnie are meant for each other after all. That is for certain,' Seohyun thinks to herself.
----------------------
After returning to the dorm Sooyoung immediately heads for Sunny and Yuri's room but sadly finds only Sunny inside reading a magazine on her bed.
Sunny jumps in surprise by Sooyoung's entrance but she notices something strange about the taller girl. "Something is different about you, Shikshin," Sunny comments.
"I realize that I love Yuri," Sooyoung says simply.
Sunny blinks, astonished. She shakes her head and smiles. "Took you long enough. I wish you had discovered that earlier."
"I know... I'm stupid," Sooyoung frowns, lowering her head.
"Yeah. You are," Sunny agrees. "But even that doesn't change the fact Yuri still loves you."
Sooyoung looks up, confused. "What? Doesn't she hate me? I mean... she's still avoiding and ignoring me."
"Yuri is being difficult. She knows that avoiding you is hurting you. It's like a payback for what you did to her on the night she confessed to you. At the same time, it's hurting Yuri as well. Although she won't admit it, the one thing she wants right now is to be with you, Sooyoung."
"... Really?"
"Really. Every time I see her lying on her bed, she looks miserable and hugs this stuffed bear. Yuri might look cold and apathetic when she pushes you away, but inside her heart is breaking."
"Oh..." Sooyoung stays silent until she realizes something. "Wait did you say she hugs a stuffed bear when she's sad?"
"Hm? Oh yeah. It's that one right there on Yuri's bed. The brown one with a swimming tube around it," Sunny directs, pointing to the bear.
Sooyoung walks over to Yuri's bed. The bear was sitting upright, the paws happily holding onto its tube. Sooyoung picks up the bear and stares at it. "This is the bear I won for Yuri when we went to the carnival together."
"Oh really?" Sooyoung nods, causing Sunny to smile. "Still not convinced our Black Pearl still loves you?"
Sooyoung says nothing but continues to stare at the bear.
Sunny sighs. "Well good thing I know something else that proves that she does." Sunny lifts up Yuri's pillow and reveals a strip of photos that were hiding underneath. Sooyoung's mouth opens in surprise as she picks up the photos.
"We took those at the carnival too." After staring at the photos for a long period of time, Sooyoung puts them back underneath the pillow, falling silent once again.
"You know Shikshin, now that you know you're ready to talk to Yuri, try talking to her today when she comes back from jogging," Sunny suggests. "I think once you talk to her again you'll realize she does love you."
Sooyoung nods and smiles slightly. "Maybe you're right." Sooyoung puts her hand on the doorknob. "I think I'm going to take a nap."
"Go ahead. I don't think Yuri's going to be back for awhile."
"Thanks. If you could, wake me up when Yuri comes home." Sooyoung leaves the room to go to her own.
An hour passes and all was peaceful in the dorm. Taeyeon and Sooyoung were both sleeping in their rooms. In the living room, Tiffany, Jessica, Sunny, and Hyoyeon were playing tennis on the Wii. It was Hyoyeon and Jessica against Sunny and Tiffany. Yoona was watching the match from the couch, munching on a bag of chips.
"Taeyeon Unnie should be playing with you guys. She could do her Sharapova imitation as she plays," Yoona laughs.
"Let the leader sleep. Plus, if she does that I'll be laughing the entire time," Hyoyeon smiles. She swings her arm.
"She'd be so distracting," Sunny says. "HIYAH!" she screams, hitting the ball back.
Tiffany laughs. "Calm down Sunny. We're playing tennis, not karate."
"Get the ball, Jessica! Get it! Get it!" Hyoyeon shouts.
"Huh!? Waaaahhh!" Jessica squeals, flailing her remote wildly in the air. To dismay, as well as Hyoyeon's, she misses the ball.
"Yah! You were supposed to do a back-hand shot!" Hyoyeon groans.
"Wh-hoo! We scored! High-five girlfriend!" Tiffany cheers turning to Sunny.
"Yeah!" Sunny and Tiffany high-five each other.
"HEY! I'M YOUR GIRLFRIEND!" Jessica whines.
"You know what I mean Jessie!" Tiffany says.
"30 - 40 MATCH POINT"
"We're going to win for sure!" Sunny says smugly.
"NO WAY!" Jessica and Hyoyeon say simultaneously.
Before resuming the game, Tiffany snakes her arm around Jessica's waist and pulls her close. "Listen Jessie... if you let me and Sunny win, I'll give you a pleasant treat later," Tiffany purrs.
Jessica immediately blushes but before she could reply, Hyoyeon cuts in. "Yah Miyoung! Stop trying entice my partner with your sly words! Sica don't listen to her, even if she is your girlfriend!"
"But the offer is really tempting..." Jessica mutters. Hyoyeon shoots her a glare.
"Hey guys. I'm back," a voice calls from the door. Everyone in the living room jumps at the voice.
Sunny was the first to respond. "Welcome back, Yuri," Sunny greets with a smile. "Feeling better after your jog?"
Yuri nods. "Yes. I feel more relaxed."
"Are you hungry, Yuri? There's some leftover food in the fridge if you are," Hyoyeon offers.
"I'll eat after I change. Thanks for letting me know." Yuri quickly leaves the living room and the sound of a door opening and closing can be heard.
"She's still not much of a talker is she," Jessica frowns.
"I know Sooyoung has done wrong, but I wish Yuri would give Sooyoung a chance," Tiffany says.
Sunny suddenly remembers to wake up Sooyoung since Yuri has returned. Excusing herself from the virtual tennis match, Sunny carefully opens the door to Taeyeon, Sooyoung, and Yoona's room and quietly makes her way to Sooyoung's bed. She gently shakes Sooyoung.
"Sooyoung. Sooyoung."
The Shikshin stirs a bit and opens a lazy eye. "Sunny?" she rasps.
"Yuri's back. She's in our room."
Sooyoung's eyes snap wide open. "Really?!"
"Shhhh! Taeyeon's still sleeping," Sunny whispers. "Come on. Let's get out of here."
Sunny and Sooyoung exit the room, closing the door softly. Sooyoung sighs. "To be honest, I'm a nervous to talk to Yuri this time."
"Aw don't tell me you're gonna chicken out on this, Sooyoung!" Sunny exclaims jokingly. When she realizes how nervous the Shikshin is, Sunny pats her back. "Don't worry. It'll be okay," she reassures the taller girl.
"What if she refuses to talk to me?"
"Just be more forceful from the start. That way she'll know the old Sooyoung is back," Sunny smiles. "I'm going to head back to the living room. I still need to beat Hyoyeon and Jessica at tennis."
"But can't you come with me?" Sooyoung pleads.
"You got to do this on your own, Choi Sooyoung." Sunny responds before heading back to the living room.
Sooyoung takes a deep breath and walks over to Yuri's room. As expected the door was closed but the light was turned on inside, giving Sooyoung the signal that Yuri was definitely in the room. Her first instinct was to call out Yuri's name before opening the door, but she feared the same rejection that's she's been given numerous times.
Just be more forceful from the start.
Letting Sunny's words ring in her head, Sooyoung comes up with a decision. "If Kwon Yuri won't listen to me... then I'll make her listen," she whispers to herself.
Without another thought, Sooyoung opens the door and bursts into the room.
"KWON YURI, I NEED TO TALK TO YOU AND I WON'T TAKE NO FOR A....A.... a....."
Sooyoung stops talking as her jaw drops at the sight of Yuri. She just caught Yuri in the middle of changing. Yuri was only clad in her white underwear and was in the process of putting on her bra. Yuri's bare back was facing Sooyoung, but that and the fact Yuri was in her underwear was enough to turn Sooyoung's face immensely red.
It took a minute for Yuri's mind to process that Sooyoung was in front of her but it also took another minute to realize that Sooyoung walked in on her barely clothed. Yuri sceams and covers her chest with her arms. 'YAAAAAH WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN HERE?!"
Sooyoung covers her eyes with her hand. "OH MY GOD I'M SO SORRY! I... I.... I JUST WANTED TO TALK! I SWEAR I DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING!"
"LIAR YOU WERE STARING AT ME!"
"NO NO! I just saw the color of your underwear..... I MEAN.... WAIT NEVERMIND!"
"YAAAAAAAHHHH CHOI SOOYOUNG YOU PERVERT!" Yuri screams again, her face also red. "GET OUT!"
"Okay, Okay!" Sooyoung continues to cover her eyes with one hand while the other searched fervently for the doorknob.
Yuri opens the door for Sooyoung and pushes her out of the room. "OUT OUT OUT!" She slams the door on the Shikshin and leans on the door, her heart beating rapidly. It's been so long since her heart was racing like it was now. Yuri could feel Sooyoung leaning on the other side of the door.
She hears Sooyoung whine, "Yaaaah, I'm sorry Kwon Yuri! I didn't mean to walk in on you while you were changing! And I'm not a pervert!"
Outside, Sooyoung groans and slaps her forehead. 'You idiot! That seriously did not go as planned... And I can't believe I saw her... like that.' Her face instantly heats up recalling the sight of Yuri only in her underwear. Sooyoung's body stiffens when she suddenly hears Yuri giggling softly on the other side. Sooyoung smiles and relaxes; it's been too long since she's heard Yuri laugh.
"Hey Yuri?" she begins hesitantly.
"... Yes Sooyoung?"
Sooyoung smiles even wider because this time she wasn't being rejected. "Can we talk? Like maybe later tonight?" When there was no reply she continues. "Please Yuri... I really want to talk to you." She turns around to face the door and leans her forehead against it.
"I miss you so much," she adds quietly but enough for Yuri to hear.
Inside the room, Yuri's heart swells with warmth upon hearing those words. The sincerity in Sooyoung's voice was making Yuri so emotional that her eyes begin to tear. She chokes back a sob, desperately trying to keep it at bay. Yuri wanted to tell Sooyoung so badly that she misses her just as much.
Instead she says, "Okay... Talk to me after dinner. I'll wait in my room." Yuri hears a sigh of relief and imagines Sooyoung smiling the typical Shikshin smile.
"Thank you, Yuri." Sooyoung says softly. "I'll see you then."
Yuri could feel the pressure from the other side as she hears Sooyoung walk away. Yuri's chest tightens at the absence of the younger girl.
It was like before.
Although she thought she hated Sooyoung for what she did to her and continued to push her away, Yuri cannot deny the aching feeling in her heart.
Kwon Yuri never hated Choi Sooyoung: she was always madly in love with her the whole time.
