"One, two, three and to the four, Snoop Doggy Dogg and Dr. Dre is at the door ready to make an entrance so back on up -Yeah, you know we're about to rip shit up." Calvin Broadus Jr., as of 1998 legally Snoop Dogg, was born in 1971 and grew up into a local Crip gang of Long Beach California. "Do ya feel it when you touch me? Well, there’s a fire.... There's fire, inside.... Oh yeah, all right." James Osterberg Jr., socially known as Iggy Pop after leaving his first band from high school, was born in 1947 and grew up in trailer park in Muskegon Michigan. Snoopy, is an alleged pimp and Iggy is a self admitted stagetory rapist, two individuals born from harsh elements whose records are anything but clean somehow were able to harness the emotional energy derived from their element and channel it into a power that let them become the kings of their leagues.
Iggy Pop is punk rock; his attitude, the way he exists defines "punk rock" to its very core, a reckless abandon for personal health and the health of those around him in favor of pleasure and raw power. His music was, while influential to what later would be considered by a social majority "punk rock" bands, such as the Sex Pistols and the Clash; the music that Iggy created even with the Stooges was not really "punk rock", it was a dirty sort of psychedelic fire that got Iggy up and made him burn his heart out through a stage performance. But Iggy played hard, he is well known for shooting up heroin on stage, and getting a sixteen year old pregnant when he was in his early twenties, a real sex icon that girls lusted after; inspired by artists like Jim Morisson, the Velvet Underground, and McJagger, Iggy was an infusion of charismatic energy that caused massive cultural explosions on stage.
Snoop Dogg defines Gangsta, he grew up in the hood, he knows what its like to get shot at, but he still keeps it cool, he's Gangsta. Snoop could be considered a key figure in creating what hip hop and rap is today but he is not a godfather of gangsta rap like Iggy was to punk, though Snoopy does have an album named the Doggfather. Snoop writes the smoothest raps and collaborates with the creators of some of the "sickest beats" to create rap that is actually tolerable, and not just tolerable but enjoyable. Snoopy, like Iggy, played hard, in his youth he lived a life of robbing and drug slinging but was soon recognized by his crip gang as musically talented. For his first three years after high school Snoop was in and out of jail for trafficking cocaine, since then he has been in and out of legal trouble from weapons to marijuana charges and is scrutinized by authorities as an ex-gang member. Snoop has always been known as a pimp, weather or not he is or was actually in the business the image is still there making him a sex icon towards young girls especially. Snoop Dogg gets it right, he’s got supreme rhymes, bumpin` beats, and his music gets the girls dancing (which is the whole point of hip hop, right?).
Only in a country as diverse as the US can two people whose personal lives, with out the trappings of subculture, paralleled closely create such different but intelligent and majorly Bumpin` music. Both started life in the bottom of America’s economical and social pyramid, but through creativity and a media that has never ending resources and outlets, these two individuals ended up on top of both the economical and social pyramid.
They are still on top today The amazing thing is that they didn't even need to kill anyone one to get on top, I can't say for sure neither one ever did kill anybody but I assume that no one lost their lives over record deals.
