God, I love anime conventions SO MUCH

Jul 06, 2012 14:06

Last weekend I went to my local anime convention, and I had SO MUCH FUN!! Like, I don't even know where to begin...! So many awesome things happened, and I met so many wonderful people, and I just...!!!

*takes a deep breath*

Warning: This is going to be very disjointed and ramble-y because I honestly don't know how to put all of these thoughts in my head into coherent sentences. I just. My mind. GAH. /end disclaimer

I'm a little ashamed to say I didn't finish my cosplay until the day before the con, but I got it done. >D Can you guess who I went as? Can you? Give up yet?

I WENT AS YUGI~!

I'm tempted to post up a picture of my cosplay because a kind person I met there emailed the picture he took to me, but I'm not sure... I've already found my picture floating around the internet, but still. xD Yugi is a very popular character, and I had a lot of people asking for my picture. I have never been so popular in my entire life. Maybe it was the hair?

Here, have some pictures of my wig~

I made the base of this wig by buying a red and black punk wig on eBay and spiking it to look like Yugi's hair. I did the yellow part by buying some yellow felt, cutting out the pieces, doubling the pieces up by gluing them together, gluing yellow hair extensions onto the felt, super gluing those together with a hot glue gun until I got them to look like how I wanted, and finally gluing all of that to the wig with a hot glue gun.

Needless to say, it took a lot of hairspray, but I managed. xD Some people actually thought it was my real hair and that I had just attached the yellow part to my hair. Overall, I'm really happy with how it turned out!

Maybe it's just because so few people attempt Yugi's hair, but like I said earlier I have never been so popular in my entire life. xD I didn't cosplay on Friday, but I did on Saturday and Sunday and oh my gosh the pictures. So many people asked for pictures. It was really flattering, actually. People also kept shooting Yugioh Abridged references at me, which made me happy. Literally the first room I walked into in my cosplay (the main ballroom for the opening ceremonies on Saturday), someone shouted out, "It's Yugi!!! Yugi, do you own a motorcycle?!" To which, a little surprised but happy, I replied, "No! No card games on motorcycles." xDDD And those sort of things happened all throughout Saturday and Sunday, with people shouting things like, "My hair approves of your cosplay!" at me. Hahaha.

And I met so many wonderful people through my cosplay! Though, since I was cosplaying a character from a shounen anime, they were almost all guys. xD Like... There was one I met on Saturday who approached me to talk about Yugioh and Yugioh Abridged while I was looking at some of the art booths. His friend came a little later and told him, "I see you've found someone to talk about your Yugioh obsession with." xD And later on that night the three of us went to the concerts they were holding at the convention, which was a lot of fun. We ended up exchanging phone numbers so that we may continue to rant for the rest of eternity.

Then that guy had me thrown in 'jail.' You see, the convention had a fake jail set up to raise money for charity. You could put a bounty on someone's head and they would hunt the person down and throw them in 'jail.' The amount of time they spent there just depended on how high the bounty was.

Well, at the concert the guy left to use the bathroom. Then he came back and asked me to follow him really quick. I did, and as soon as I walked into the hallway I was surrounded by people pointing fake steampunk guns at me.

And that was how 'Yugi Mutou' was arrested. xDDD

They told me they were arresting me for possession because, and I quote, Yugi "gets possessed all of the time by an ancient Egyptian Pharaoh." xDDD I tried to tell them that I was innocent, and that I didn't mean to get possessed by the spirit of an ancient Egyptian Pharaoh because it just kind of happened whenever I tried to play children's card games, but they didn't listen and threw me in jail anyway.

I had a jail mate. She was a very tough looking girl, and she told me not to drop the soap, or else. xDDD I was so traumatized.

And the guy who put the bounty on me was just standing outside my cell, laughing. He told me he did it because he was always miffed by how cocky Yami was on the show, always winning at children's card games. xDDD I WAS INNOCENT!! *sob*

Anyway, I bought a lot of stuff while I was there~ Look!

I bought the One Piece stuff for my friend, though I kept one of the Boa Hancock figures. And as you can see, I was able to find some SasuNaru doujinshi there~!! I was so happy! I bought the pink one because, as I am practically a professional doujin stalker, I knew it came with this poster:

^q^

The second doujinshi I got, the one by Uzu Uzu Company, actually has a kind of funny story behind it. I went back to go and buy it because, after thinking it over, I decided I had enough money for a second doujinshi and since it was my favorite Uzu Uzu doujinshi... So, I went to go and get it, and just as I was triumphantly holding it in the air, reveling in the beauty of my purchase, a couple who were cosplaying as Sasuke and Sakura walked by holding hands.

Yeah.

I scrambled to shield it from them, but I think they still saw.

And keep in mind, I was still dressed as Yugi. It's like... "HECK YEAH, YUGI MUTOU LIKES SASUNARU YAOI DOUJIN. WUT." xDDD

Good times, good times.

But you want to know the OMFG BEST PURCHASE I MADE?

BEHOLD:

I got it at the charity auction they were holding at the convention. A staff member saw my cosplay and told me that there was going to be a Millennium Puzzle at the auction, and I was all over that like white on rice.

I just.

I.

I LOVE IT SO MUCH AHHHHHHH!!!!

WORDS CANNOT EXPRESS MY JOY.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I ended up winning it for $70, and it was worth every single cent. They guy who was sitting next to me helped me bid by giving me tips because I'd never done a live auction before, and I was so grateful.

I had a bit of a bid war with a lady over it, but I ended up talking to her later and you know what she told me? She didn't know what the puzzle was and just wanted it for her collection of unusual things, but her daughter knew and she told her mom to let me win it because I was the character it belonged to and she couldn't take the puzzle away from Yugi. xD

When I won it, I tried to hold back my fangirly squeals of happiness. The guy sitting next to me who helped me out laughed at my pitiful attempts at this and told me to just let it out, and so I did. xD People cheered.

It really is a beautiful puzzle. It's hard to tell this from the picture, but it's very heavy. I can tell it's been sitting in storage for a while, because it was very dusty and part of the main glass is busted out in the back. See:

But gah, I love it so much. Even the base is pretty!!

I didn't take pictures of it, but the base also has ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs along the side. So pretty. <3

I have so much more I could tell, but this is getting very long so I'll stop. xD If you've made it this far, thank you for listening. I can't wait to go to the new Encounters Convention in October!

sasunaru, millennium puzzle, pokemon, one piece, naruto, yugioh, rambling, cosplay, oh my freaking gooooshhhhhhh, doujinshi, friends
