From the department of doing EVERYTHING EXCESSIVELY:
I lovelovelovelovelove the thin red lines. Also, it's huge. I'm saying hello to long sleeves at job interviews for the rest of my life, but it is SO worth it. It's intensely personal and spiritual and I am beside myself with a profound joy.
Also, seriously, the original plan was something more like this:
So I went into the shop with my veve printed out and kind of scrambled to the counter and held up my printed out veve and waved it around:
and said, "THIS. But smaller? Inside of wrist."
And the tattoo guy's eyebrows kind of did a thing, a skeptical pained kind of thing, and he said, "How much smaller? There's a lot of detail there?"
And I said, "YOU'RE RIGHT. SO NOT THAT MUCH SMALLER. ALSO THE SWIRLY SWOOPY BITS HAVE TO INTERLOCK AS IF IT WERE A BRACELET." (secretly I was thrilled and had been contemplating a size upgrade for a while)
And Z reminded, "Color."
"OH YES. AND IT'S RED. CAN YOU DO THAT?"
"I think so."
"CAN YOU DO IT RIGHT NOW?"
And so he did.
I went
HERE, by the way, Black Sparrow Studios, and my artist was
Miguel, and everything was amazing.
Mmm, red.
Z asked, surprised, before I went in, "Not blue?"
And I explained that, yes, blue is my favorite color in the world, but I am very particular about things being the EXACTLY RIGHT SHADE of ocean blue, and getting ink the right color would be hard and I'd probably spend the rest of my life making faces and going IT'S NOT MY BLUE.
So, red. Easier, symbolically appropriate all around, and FUCKFUCKFUCK, doesn't it look grand? YES IT DOES.
Overall I'm really thrilled I didn't go with the huge blocky black skull in the middle variant:
as neat as it is. I feel way classier this way.
I am also glad I did not get the swordsy variant:
as much as I like knives. It seems, uh...not nice. Suggestive of the three of swords? Suggestive of scalpels? ALL THINGS TO AVOID. I am done with them. Yes.
Here's another variant I was musing over for years:
Coincidently!
So as far as veves go, it's a popular one.
SO HAPPY WITH MINE, though.
Given infinite time and resources, by the way, this is what I would wrap around an upper arm:
In something very close to that color. Similar theeeemes!
Anyway, notice the candle in the pic before the cut?
with something like this:
on it?
I drew this plan for a painting a few months ago:
and I think it would be WONDERFUL.
HAPPY EVERYTHING TO EVERYONE. I love you all. I am thrilled to be ALIVE to see this birthday, because things were REALLY touch and go for a while there. But HOORAY, HOORAH, and ohmygod, best birthday gift ever. And no, I could not wait for pictures.
LOVE.
