WORST HEALTH CHECK EVER.

Sep 04, 2008 11:02

So. I'm drowsing around the house this morning doing my morning routine and thinking about breakfast when I realize that it's the 4th, which means it's health check day, which means no breakfast for me. AND that I forgot about the stool sample thing (thank god for gaijin smash... although I'm usually polite and trying to follow the rules as best I can). So I run off to school trying desperately to be on time (and I am! Early, even.) to ask what time I'm supposed to be at the health check place. Get told it's NOW and trot along to town hall and the designated health check area. See my supervisor going in, so far so good. Buddy ignored me most of the time but did grab me a urine test cup and answered a question about where to go next.

So I hand over my papers, get my height checked (down from 184.2 to 183, my normal height), my weight checked (109kg to 106kg) and off to do the pee thing. But, OMG, I only had a single cup of coffee this morning not even an hour ago! So I can barely get anything out. Luckily that does not matter and the lady doesn't seem to mind when I hand over the stool sample containers bag and say: 'Sumimasen... Kore ga wakarimasen...' But by this point I'm already sweating and hungry and WTF-ing about everything! So I go deal with my cup and it's contents in the bathroom, and this is where it gets bad: I FORGET TO TAKE OFF THE BATHROOM SLIPPERS. I walked back into the main room where one of my shogakko teachers coughed at me so I could scurry back and fix things. I have never done that before. EVER. So now I am sweating and hungry and WTF-ing and embarrassed in a room full of teachers. I was so upset that I felt like crying periodically over the rest of the morning. Ugh. Low blood sugar + stress = bad.

Next up is the eye test which went fine. Then blood pressure (8 above last years, and my normal, on both counts. Nervous much?) followed by taking blood. Like last year the nurse examines the inside of both of my elbows, cannot find any veins, looks distressed and talks with her neighbor. Then apologizing profusely she takes blood from the back of my hand. My writing hand even though I tried to get her to take it from the other hand. Oh well, doesn't really hurt, move on. Hearing test went fine. Then it's off to the electrocardiogram room where there is a line up of almost 20. So I get to sit seiza, moving from cushion to cushion on the tatami room floor as the line moves, for 1/2 an hour to get in. Finally I get in and they lay me down on the table and I pull up my shirts and they start taking readings. Only it doesn't work so they readjust everything, and it doesn't work again, and just as I'm trying to figure out how to tell them 'it's okay I can just go' it finally works. So now I'm almost free and can run downstairs to line up for chest x-ray.

The chest x-ray is in a van. So after waiting another 20 minutes or so I get in and they shove me into the alcove to take off my bra and shirt (no buttons) and put on a wrap. Apparently everyone else was smart enough to not wear an underwire bra or buttons so they don't have to take off their shirts. Noted for next year. So they squish me into the x-ray thing, take the picture, and then I whack my head on the roof as I walk back into the alcove. But I don't care, it's finished. My supervisor said this was the last bit as I was waiting in the line and they stole my papers for good. So I shoved my bra into my bag (I wore an undershirt with a shelf-bra) and buttoned up and got the hell out of there. I got properly redressed at school in the teacher's change room.

I don't remember last year going so badly. What the hell happened this year.
