Shake it Off

shake it off, shake it off, shake it off...

the sweat. the fear. the mistakes and late night brainstorming sessions gone awry. no one can hear this but you so why do you whisper? why do you hold it in like the smoke we use to chase away the nighttimes in our minds? breathing it in, clear and awakening. then letting it sit stagnant in the lungs. rusting the essential tools needed to recycle oxygen. now you wonder why its suddenly become so hard to simply inhale. the intake of breath frozen in a place you cant reach.

shake it off.

What are you waiting for anyway? Are we stuck waiting for people to follow? Where are you bestie? Where are you mother? Wait, I cant do it without my father, sister, childhood buddy, boy that never noticed me. Dont get confused. Do not forget this. If you have to wait then they werent invited for the ride. The vessel is leaving. Quick! Faster! To not catch your ride shows the weight of your determination. How heavy is your will? How heavy is theirs? Dead weight is dangerous...

Shake it off.

These doubts. The hangups and the what ifs and the pretenses. Inside the cocoon of familiarity there is comfort but no growth. Which for you is priority? Sometimes the force behind our desires diguise themselves as things we need. They blend together and soon we are weighted down with what we never knew we needed and so many more we never even wanted.

Shake. It. Off.

And stand naked in a world we stopped paying full attention to long ago. Do you remember? Remember as a child being filled with inescapable wonder at even the most mundane things?  The way the sunlight hit a reflective surface. Hundreds of ants milling around their antholes. How important it made you feel to be allowed to assist an adult with meal preparation. Recall the elation. Would it not be nice to see the world like that again?

Shake it off. Start over. Remember oxygen, our peers, our families and the perpetual need to keep growing. Embrace a personal revolution by shaking off the stagnation of yesterday.

Shake it off.
