Tick-tock, where does the time go?

It's Wednesday and kind of late to be rehashing the weekend that just whizzed past but I'm going to do it anyway.  On Saturday, I went to a dress rehearsal of the Nutcracker.  It was free which was a good thing since this was my initiation into the world of ballet and tickets to the real thing are quite expensive.  What I saw was impressive but I've come to the conclusion that I'm not a ballet-type person. The dancers were graceful and athletic, the costumes were lovely (though not all the dancers were in costume) and the sets were beautifully done. The fact that this rehearsal was being filmed for a documentary  called 'Ballet Girls' didn't exactly make for the most pleasant viewing experience I've ever had.  The lights and the cameras were quite distracting as well as instruction from the Assistant Director to 'applaud with more enthusiasm this time' again and again.  Because this was a dress rehearsal, the stage manager whose disembodied voice came out over the sound system,  would stop the performers every now and then to get them to do something over again.  ("More lift this time, guys!")   I left before it was over, not because it wasn't good or entertaining, but because I needed to be home in time to head out to a friend's Annual Tree-trimming party.  I would consider the ballet again but only if the tickets were free and I'd had plenty of sleep the night before.

So far, I've shopped, decorated, wrapped and sent out Christmas cards while my husband has contributed diddley-squat to our holiday celebration.  Would we even have Christmas if we left everything up to the males of the species?   I think not.  One year, women all over the world should absolutely refuse to do Christmas. Retailers everywhere would be declaring bankruptcy while turkeys would be heaving a sigh of relief.  We gals are certainly the wind beneath Santa's wings (reindeer?)  and our hard work is what makes the festive season happen.

Happy Solstice all!
