trial project in progress

I sculpted a new little wireless microphone for Mini-Peter, cooked it, and made a mold of it.  It's setting right now.  As this is a trial, I am going to pull it out at 24 hours, which in the instructions inside the box is the recommended time.  I wish they'd make up their minds, though, because on the outside of the box it recommends 48.  The website says 12 should be enough.  LOL, oh well.

The mixing and pouring of the rubber mold went pretty well.  The stuff's fairly easy to work with.  I'm more worried about the casting resin.  The rubber gives you over an hour to play around before it starts hardening - the resin only gives you about one minute, so it will have to be mixed and poured very quickly.  Fortunately, Mini-Peter's actual head is no longer involved by that step, so the worst I can do is waste some resin, and there's plenty of it so it's not a big deal.

I poured the rubber in around 5 today, so after work tomorrow I'll come home and see how it turned out.  Assuming all goes well with removing the master mic, I will pour in some resin and make the first copy, which takes only a very short time to harden completely.  I should know before I go to bed tomorrow how this is going to turn out.  However, I will not rush.  I will be tired tomorrow, anyway, so I will not start on Mini-Peter's head until Monday.
