well, i had a lovely visit with giddyup horsey, and now he's gone home again. :(
so the reason he came to visit was because he bought tickets for a judy collins concert.
that was on thursday, and it was lovely. she did a nice mix of old and new stuff. for the first part, she played guitar accompanied by a pianist. during this part, she was very talkative, telling little anecdotes and such. but at a certain point, he left the stage and she took over the piano, and then she just went from song to song to song without even really stopping to give us a chance to applaud. it was really nice.
giddyup has seen her four times before, and this was the first time he heard her do certain songs, so that was cool for him. and i'd never seen her live before, so i was thrilled that she did several of my favorites, including since you've asked and albatross. she also did sons of and then segued into my father - and i even managed not to cry. not much, anyway. and during the time when she was playing guitar and telling anecdotes, she'd sometimes play just a verse of something that wasn't included in its entirety in the set. so i got to at least hear a snippet of suzanne during my favorite of the stories she told. a canadian fellow, a friend of a friend, came to see her. he said, i can't sing, and i can't play the guitar, and i'm not sure this is a song. and then he started singing suzanne. (leonard cohen, of course.) she said, well, you can sing - i've heard worse, and you can play the guitar - i've heard worse, and it's a song and i'm recording it tomorrow. :D (question: has anyone on the f-list ever read the book
dave's song by robert mckay? this was one of my all-time favorite novels from my youth. the song in question is suzanne, of course.)
all in all, we had a lovely visit. it's a little sad to return to my everyday life without having him here. i miss the days when we lived in the same town and could get together every week. :( we did indulge in a little bit of fantasizing about him possibly moving down here at some point. it's not really feasible at the moment for various reasons, but it was a nice fantasy for both of us - he's lonely these days, too. *sigh*
it's time to vote at
snupin_ldws again. voting is open until wednesday at 6 eastern time. once again, i think mine is not the worst, but nor do i think it's the best. i like it better than i did last time, but - i don't know, i just have not felt that inspired by the challenges so far, i have to admit. the quality of the writing overall is pretty good, so i end up feeling quite average, which i don't like. *scowls* i'm sure there is a lovely life lesson for me in this experience but hell if i know what it is right at the moment.
*hugs*
