You did well! I don't think that most people who attempt NaNo just plod on until it's done. In fact, I'm pretty sure that the vast majority drops out within the first week. To put it further into perspective: it is pretty well known by now that agents and publishers alike absolutely dread December and January because that's when the slush pile rises to epic proportions with no hope of finding a decent manuscript worth pursuing, so my guess would be a lot of NaNo winners only do it because they want the glory of being a published author without doing the homework first. A percentage of participants uses NaNo to write fanfic or to complete a WIP. So, yeah, for someone who takes writing serious, your word count ain't half-bad, and it served to prove you that you can pour out a consistent word count over a given period of time, and that is a great thing to know!!!

For me, I've attempted NaNo before, and I did way worse than you've done. This time around, I knew I had a story to tell, and the idea for that was born back in March. I spent my time in London pondering it, then in May and June, I jotted down notes, even wrote out entire scenes, then life got busy, so I let it rest; but I never dropped it, and when everyone started talking about NaNo, I thought I'll give it a try. Until minutes before midnight Nov 1, I didn't even know whether I would write fanfic or o-fic. The moment I started writing, it was all o-fic.

NaNo happens every year. Maybe your part success, maybe seeing your friends succeed will inspire you to participate again next year.

::hugs::

thank you for giving me this perspective on it. i guess i did do better than most, and it has served its purpose of giving me a structure within which to explore my extremely vague idea, which is now a bit less vague.

i suppose having a pretty clear idea of what you are planning to write is a big help when trying to come up with that large an output. lol. i'm very happy that you did so well with it - it is particularly inspiring since i know that was not your expectation going in. :D

*hugs*
