i've fallen and i can't get up ...
okay, not really, but that's how it feels. i'm trying to finish my lupin big bang story and having a very difficult time of it. i've got 15,800 words so far, but not in order - i'm somewhere in the middle of the narrative at the moment.
i think really the problem has to do with things like, i've never written anything so long, and i've never tried to write anything with so much in the way of plot complications. usually i keep a pretty tight focus on my characters and their emotions and don't include a lot of extraneous stuff. and now i see why. as in, look, i've gone and introduced a new character - i suppose i must give them a name! or, look, you've introduced this particular element, now how the hell do you propose to resolve it?
i know i'm capable of writing this particular story, and i think i'm even capable of getting it to be 20000 words long. i do, however, have my doubts about getting it done to a halfway decent standard by the deadline - especially since i keep getting stuck. i've written zero words all week. the last two nights i've opened the document, stared at it, and closed it again some time later. there's this hurdle i can't seem to get past. and i need to get 1500 words done in the next two days to stay on track, which would not be a problem if i could actually manage to write anything at all.
oh, yeah, RL has been kicking my ass a bit, which might be part of the problem. i'm incredibly distracted. it should be better after tuesday because they are supposed to lay the linoleum in the dining room and kitchen on monday, and paint on tuesday, and then i will have my home back. but in the meantime - i have to prepare for them to do that, i.e. move furniture, clear kitchen counters, etc. fortunately, monday is a holiday for me.
