Today marks the first day of the new diet. I need to lose 25 pounds in the next 3 months. That's a little over 2 pounds per week. It's a high bar to set, but if it gets me that new iMac, I'll do everything I can.
So I weighed in this morning at 190 lbs. I haven't had a bowel movement in a little over a day, so I'm sure that's part of my problem. I also know that I'm eating whatever I want, and that's the other part of my problem. I've gained 3 pounds since my last weigh in, and I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, I'm glad it's only 3 pounds (I was expecting at least 5) because that means I haven't set myself back too far. On the other hand, it's THREE WHOLE POUNDS! I'm back up into the 190's and I HATE it!
So today we start fresh. By July 13th, I hope to have lost at least 25 pounds. It would be ideal if I could lose another 25 in the 3 months after that -- shaving off a good 50 pounds before my wedding -- but I'm not going to set my sights that far (and high) yet. Let's see how much I can lose in the first 3 months before trying to set another goal for myself.
I'm a big fan of
344pounds.com, (he actually posted a letter I wrote in to him over a year ago!) and the blogger there suggests setting small goals for yourself, and rewarding yourself for meeting them. So I'll add a mini prize for myself - once I lose the first 12.5 pounds, I'm going to go out and get my first pedicure. I've never had one, and every summer, as I dig out my sandals, I long to look down and see happy filed painted toes that look nice. So that's a little bonus for me.
When I asked Nick if he still wanted a PS3 as his price he answered "yeah, I guess" rather unenthusiastically. I don't fully understand why he wants an incentive too, seeing as he weighs less than me, he sheds weight very quickly, and he doesn't have a prize to set his sights on. I hope his lack of enthusiasm doesn't get in the way of my progress. I sorta wish he'd just focus on backing me in my goals instead, but last night when he said "what do I get if I lose 25 pounds?" I felt that it would be only fair to offer him a prize, too. I suggested an iPad, or an iPod touch, but he conceded that he didn't "need" them. He wants to upgrade his computer as well, but he admitted that he doesn't want to upgrade both our machines at once. He's drooled over my DROID for some time now, so I suggested that he can get the smartphone of his choosing (in case something cooler than the DROID comes out in the next 3 months) if he loses the weight, but he didn't want that either. He then lit up and proclaimed, "I WANT A PS3 WITH 3 GAMES AND AN EXTRA CONTROLLER!" I checked the pricing and said, "OK. Done." Ever since then, his enthusiasm for his prize has waned. I don't understand. He sounded so excited when he announced it. I really thought he'd go for the smartphone, since the navigation alone proves very handy, now that we're in a new area. But he made his choice, and he is sticking to it, however displeased he may sound as he does so.
On the wedding front... We are still looking for a caterer. Hamel's had food that was pretty good (and cheap!) but their service was terrible and made us pretty unhappy. We figured our wedding planner would have to deal with the cruddy service, not us, so we told her to go ahead and hire them. Our wedding planner, Allison, told us that since it will be such a special day for us, she'd rather not have us settle on a caterer. So she suggested a few more. We're waiting to hear back on a quote and a tasting for one of them.
I went out with my Maid of Honor, Laurie, and her two sisters, mother, and aunt, as well as my half brother, Billy to go dress shopping. I really thought not having my mom there would be terrible on me, but I managed to get through it without crying. I tried on quite a few dresses before deciding on a gorgeous one. It had dark red roses and accents on it, which I think were the reason I was initially drawn to it, but our wedding colors are going to be purple, teal and blue, so I opted to get the dress in all ivory. It is stunning, and I can't wait to see Nick's jaw hit the floor when he sees me in it. Later that day, we went to David's Bridal to find bridesmaid dresses. I picked one that I had been eying for a while on their website and had Laurie try it on. It fit her like a glove, and was so elegant and classy. We all loved it. We picked a shade of purple to order it in, found some shoes to match, and notified the other bridesmaids. It was the easiest part of the wedding planning so far!
So things are moving along, slowly but surely. Malachi comes to visit us next week and we are so excited. I installed some extra long bedrails on his bed and bought extra pillows for him to sleep with (he likes to surround himself in them). I also bought a cubbyhole -shelf thing with fabric cube drawers. We went through the bin of Malachi's baby toys and put the stuff that he's not too big for in the cubbyholes. Some of the stuff we donated to Good Will, and some of it we boxed up and put away for our future child to use. Some of the infant toys were things that Mom sent for Malachi, and I'd like our child to benefit from them as well. It's my way of including Mom in her grandchild's life. In my travels, I've also picked up lots of toys and activities for Malachi, so those went in the cubbyholes as well. The guest room really looks like a fun child's room now. I think I did a pretty good job of converting it. Some day, when we buy a house, Malachi will have his own room. But for now, with our limited space and resources, and the infrequency with which we get to see him, I think we've done well.
Now if I could only put that energy into dieting!
