I'm going to try to update afterall.
Lufthansa. What can I say about this airline? I love it. If you're going international, go lufthansa. They treat coach like first class, and I mean, in every way. "Hot towels? Yes please. Free drinks? More wine? How bout a refill on that wine? More wine? Red or white? It's from Chile. Would you like the vegetarian meal, or beef? Oh the vegetarian meal is creamy tortellini's with a delicious dinner role, crumb cake, and a ceasar salad. Yes, and real dishes and silverware. We sure do love you. How bout some more wine?"
I stayed awake all night. Had about 4 hours of sleep in 2 days. Talk about crack heads. Then in Germany, the airport has barbed wire decorations. It was...uh, very deathcamp. Then we got hurded into the trains to get taken to our "plane". My roomie kept saying "Come on, sure we'll take you to your 'plane'. Or how about a nice hot shower?"
Then Prague. Very vast. Luggage got lost. That wasn't great. Drive to Pardubice made me ill. They drive like maniacs. Tried to get settled into our place. Much stress the first day. Our luggage arrived around 11pm, and we had to go downstairs to unlock the front door. I accidentally buzzed a womans apartment while getting my luggage upstairs. She came out speaking Czech. I felt like I was dreaming. It was the most confusing situation to date. I tried to motion I had pushed the wrong button. It was...dark and tweaky. She finally assumed I was crazy and shut her door.
My apartment is excellent. The nicest apartment I've ever lived in.
Very spacious 2 br. Nice wood floors. I have a balcony in my gigantic room, overlooking a little cobblestone street that mini cars go wayyyy to fast on. I have my very own peeping toms in the buildings across from me. Everyone seems to like to hang out the window and look at you, or look at anyone. I live right downtown. City has about 100,000 ppl. Great downtown!!! Beautiful square with a gigantic fountain. Crazy little cafes everywhere. Every coffee shop has an ample supply of booze. Drinks are cheap. We got two huge screwdrivers for 50kc, which is like, 2.50. INSANE, no?!
I have a bus pass, which is nice. Today on the bus, a little old woman sat next to me and started talking. I smiled, and eventually said I only spoke english. She chuckled and stopped talking. I can manage a "please" "thank-you" and "hello". I can butcher "do you speak english". I've made a few ppl laugh when I try that one out.
I start teaching tomorrow at 4pm. All my classes are night, so that's cool. I met one student today. She was so nervous to meet me, it was cute. I have my lesson plans all ready to go.
And I broke into the school tonight to do this update thing. I have keys. And no one is here. But I feel scandalous for doing this. I should go, it's 11pm, I'm exhausted. And I still have to walk home. Meh! I think the buses are done for the night anyhow. I need to buy a bike. It's cold out.
I think I'm going to go to Hradec Kralova this weekend with Harold and Eileen. They are some older american teachers, that come over here every january to live and teach. They are going to be my surrogate paretns, I can tell already. Eileen is an awesome cook. And another couple that teaches wants to take us to Prague next weekend possibly. That will rock.
So far, Danka is the only Czech I am friends with. She teaches here also.
So yeah...that's that. Miss you. Love you.
