On A Point of View this evening, Helen Macdonald spoke movingly about seeing Star Wars as a seven year old, then seeing J J Abrams' masterful update and delighting in the fanfiction.
I thought she gently made a very good point about the regard or lack thereof, in which fanfiction generally, and Star Wars fic in particular is held, and the policing of fandoms' boundaries and the rejection of the 'unworthy', usually women.
