Well. Okay. It was supposed to be a quiet night in with Chinese food and game discussion. Instead it was a night out with pasta, cannoli, and James Bond. I'm ... not sure how I feel about that? Fun was had, though.
James Bond: The Good and the Bad, hopefully sans spoilers
The Good
* This James Bond was a little grittier, a little snarkier, and the movie was overall more intelligent than the last few have been. I'm not sure if it was better put together, but the movie was more... my kind of script than the last few.
* One VERY VERY BAD PUN line between Bond and A Significant Woman that I'm fairly sure was in the trailers but I'm still leaving out. AHAHAHAHAH. Okay, that still cracks me up.
* A Significant Woman/Obligatory Bond Girl: Very, very pretty. My type, if my type didn't apparently run to redheads (Don't ask, the one serious girlfriend I had was a red-head, the one serious If-girlfriend is also a red-head, long story.) I dig.
* M. Rocks. My. Socks. Judi Dench is a Goddess in my world, oh yes she is.
* I totally figured out the two-thirds-of-the-way-through-the-movie plot twist because it was totally what I would have done. The general concept, anyway, the details are always left to circumstance. I felt smarter for figuring it out because the two people I went to see it with were going "Nahhh, that's not it." While I was going "That's so TOTALLY IT."
* Bond has a temper and an overdeveloped sense of vengeance. I think I like this.
The Bad
* I kind of dislike figuring out the two-thirds-of-the-way-through-the-movie plot twist, even if it's the gleeful sensation of "Hah! That's so what I would have done." It makes me feel like the movie writers aren't ... something. Being spinny enough.
* Felix seemed like a bit of a Rosencrantz.
* If Bond was really as inept of an agent as he wound up seeming towards the end there... Yech. Although I guess it's no different from most of the movies? I just kind of wanted this one to wind up different.
On the whole, though, the good outweighed the bad. I still have no voice. Whee! I also didn't get as much writing done tonight as I would have liked, although now I feel inspired to write Pen Bryton as a spy. Must stomp urges. At any rate. It's time for several glasses of water and maybe a hot bath. If I'm very lucky, my voice will come back tomorrow.
Actually if I'm very lucky my voice will come back Sunday because I don't have to work Sunday. And I really don't want to spend Saturday getting yelled at by customers.
