Ringing in the New Year

Jan 01, 2004 20:20

I spent New Years Eve and part of New Year's day in LAS VEGAS, baby!
I went with Grace and her Co-worker, who happened to be the designated driver.

All the streets were closed down as crowds of people took over the entire strip.
The place was infested with people hanging around the outside of casinos, or on the middle of the streets, or on the sidewalks, practically EVERYWHERE. It was pretty much people just walking down the streets yelling "happy new year" and hugging random people. I must have received like over 20 hugs from different people. Everyone was just so friendly. I couldn't tell if it was the exitement of waiting for the countdown, or if it was the alcohol in their system. (If they even had any.) There was definitely a lot of pot in the air. Grace and I were trying to get high off the herbs in the air. haha

It would have taken us a fuckton of time to even ask for our drinks in one of the casinos if it weren't for a friendly man who was already ordering. He ordered for us, so we didn't have to wait. After we grabbed our drinks, we rushed back down to the streets before the countdown so we could be in the middle of the street watching fireworks and being in that crowd, but it was a little too late. Once we went outside, it was even more infested with people than it had before. So it made it impossible to walk back down to the streets. People were pushing you through and at one point Grace was being suffocated. AND I was rammed up against this fence that scratched the fuck across my chest. It looks bad today.

So of course the fireworks went off after it was past midnight, and then people were getting less friendly than they were before. It was probably due to all the people pushing everyone around.

I think that around 1:30 am, we started to head back to Grace's car. The walk was so fucking long. We literally walked down the whole Las Vegas Strip.

Oh yeah, and there were Camera News Crews there. I tried getting myself and Grace on the video camera but I'll doubt you can really see us with all the people.

Grace kept going up to random people asking to have a drink of their alcoholic beverages. lol. and I did this Mexican hat dance (I danced around a mex hat).

The best part of the night was probably when Grace and I got those mardi gras beads WITHOUT having to flash anyone. haha. so much fun.

I'll have pictures later.
