It appears that my new charge has a tendency of finding very strange things and hiding them behind his litter box. First it was a silver fork, then a small stuffed animal that might've once been a turtle, and now I've uncovered what looks like a battered copy of a Harlequin novel.

No, no, see:
Secretly, when you're gone, your cat snuggles up in your bed with a plate of fish (hence the fork), a harlequin novel, and its favorite snuggly toy. Just for some R'nR after bein' cute and fuzzy all day.

*snort* I guess you really could name him after me if you're that strapped for ideas.
I'm sort of fond of namin' my stuff after Shakespeare's works.. but that's just me.

Well, if your cat is as curious and playful, and apt as making your household objects pull disappearing acts as you say he is, I'd suggest:
Ariel.
Ariel is the sprite that's fettered to Prospero, in The Tempest.
He's a magical trickster, and he's really powerful. He creates the tempest that causes the characters to get scattered along the coast, so the plot can really get going. He also protects Prospero faithfully, mostly because he knows if he keeps Prospero happy his debt will be returned and then Prospero will let him free. He's my favorite character in The Tempest, by far.
..Wow. I just babbled Shakespeare at you for a whole year. ..Sorry.
I'm not a nerd. I swear.

Ariel. I tend to associate that with a certain Disney heroine, but that does sound rather spritely. And it's better than the alternative.
There's nothing wrong with rambling about something you appreciate. Especially not something that most people would take as a sign of intelligence. Me, I feel lucky just to be able to define iambic pentameter.
