humpf -- it's the first part of the elections today; that is, the French presidential elections.
I am not voting, since I chose to execise my citizen right (and duty) in Great-Britain, where I live and project my future, rather than in France.
All the same, I am feeling increasinlgy uncomfortable as the day goes by...
What is we have the same surprise as in 2002, and see Le Pen reaching the second tour? What if Sarkozy gets a very high purcentage? What if, what if, what if..? Many of my thought have started like that today....
we'll know in about 8 hours...
UPDATE:
well, now we know it's Sarkozy/Royal for the second round; that bit is not very surprising.
what is more troubling is teh very high score Sarkzoy achieved: more than 30%, while Royal only did 25. Add, as it is most likely to happen, Le Pen's votes (11%) to Sarkozy's votes and that makes a hug 40%.
the third candidate, the centrist Bayrou, made 18%; will he appeal to vote for Royal? and will all his electors chose her? That doesn't look very good.... :(
At least more people turned up to vote than in 2002... unfortunately many of them were still undecided seconds before voting...
that says a lot about the appealing state of French politics...
