I'm not a big fan of shopping, although I do enjoy buying the occasional nice piece of garment or crazy accessory;
I see ever-growing British consumerism as a disease [I say British b/c British buying frenzy shocked when I arrived from France; now, maybe the French have caught up with the Brits?] as I don't see the point of just accumulating stuff, and see even less the point of having the last trendy piece of rag that X or Y 'celeb' is sporting and having everybody looking like pathetic CLONES [I mean, remember when during 2 months every-fucking-body had a poncho? remember the cowboy-boots frenzy? remember the even worse Ugg boot thing? And the Skinny Jeans? And the footless-stockings-jumper-dress???? I'm puzzled at the fact that here in GB people are forced to wear uniforms at school, and when they reach the adult age, they don't want to be individuals but all get the same tan and shades???!!! Anyway...], and as I've been POOR (well, not any more) since I'm in London, I tend to customize my old clothes and recycling old stuff, which has the triple advantage of 1)being cheap 2)being Good-For-the-Planet and 3) relax me a bit [i.e. if you are not relaxed when you have a needle in your hands your are a masochist]...
All this to say what?
Well, any person living in London has certainly heard of the
FRENZY that followed the opening of a Primark in Oxford Street [brrr, just thinking 'Oxford Street' gives me Goose bumps!]... Yeah, evil consumerism wrecking the planet...
BUT THEN, ONE good thing about Primark: they have a range of eco-friendly clothes, with 100% organic cotton tee-shirts; in itself, that's not really new and would not be worth a post... if it was not so CHEAP: £4!
Hopefully, that should help shopping-freaks getting more eco-friendly...
