So, I am taking Sasha there to meet up with our other friend to celebrate their mutual birthday (same day). We aren't really into the gambling, so I would think shows and spectacles are more what we are looking for in terms of entertainment.
As for budget, I am going relatively conservative on where to stay (TI and MGM grand have good deals right now, so I am thinking about there) so I figured we could splurge a bit when we actually are there. I was trying to decide between a cirque show (either O or Zumanity) or Penn and Teller who I haven't seen since I was a soph in college. Have you seen them in Vegas? Any other fun things to see? I was tempted to see the sharks at Mandalay Bay. I am also on the lookout for veggie friendly restaurants and just really cool bars. I am a sucker for nicely made mixed drinks, infused vodkas and such. Also, dancing --- more in the goth/industrial vein or alterative genre instead of the techo/pick-up join type of place.
Good to know about the monorail. I also saw that it was $5 a ride - and for 3 or us, probably more cost effective to stick with taxis.
I've seen both O and Zumanity, and while they're both good, "O" was far better. Though Zumanity was a bit unique, in that it's an "erotic" cirque show (topless in many parts, lots of love/sex themes). Still tasteful and classy, but definitely a different slant on Cirque.
I haven't seen Penn & Teller in Vegas, but c'mon, it's Penn & Teller. :)
MGM is a nicer hotel than TI. The cannons blasting outside your window all night will drive you nuts, I hear. I think the Bellagio fountain shows are nearby TI though, which are worth watching.
Not sure about special veggie restaurants and whatnot, I'm sure they exist. I'd recommend dining and/or drinking at the Wynn though, or Encore. I splurged on a meal at Daniel Bouloud (Wynn), and it was amazing. There's even a top-notch cheese bar with samples, etc. Expensive but really nice.
For O or Bouloud, you may want to make reservations well in advance.
