Went driving with mum today, all over county Durham, just sneaking over into Northumberland and then back home when we realised that Blanchland was incredibly crowded due to a country show, and therefore the tea shop we wanted to visit there would be heaving with people. So the score is: lovely historic churches visited - 1, craft centres visited - 1 (but it was so not what we wanted that it hardly counts), sheep squashed by cars going too fast up hills - 0 (despite them wandering all over the road), quaint village teashops visited - 0, breathtaking scenery seen and enjoyed - loads and loads. Overall, the odds are in the favour of a good day. It did however make me miss the hills so very much. I love Durham and Northumberland, and much as I adore Norwich, Norfolk I find flat and uninspiring in comparison. However, Durham is a lovely place in which to spend a week: a lifetime, not so much. The nightlife is nonexistent, not that I care that much about it, and the gaming is pretty much all university-focused. Worst of all: the only cinema in Durham city centre is dreadful and only shows whatever's most popular at the time, due to our old cinema being replaced with a Walkabout which has now closed down. Sigh. I'm not sure I'll ever be 100% happy living anywhere - I'll always be longing for somewhere else.

This is far more melancholy than I had intended.
