Room 303; Monday Late Afternoon

Aug 28, 2006 15:56

Despite there not being a baking workshop any longer, Alphonse had a pie. Not just any pie-- an apple pie. Having a roomie who baked you this sort of stuff even handwavily!-- even if it was out of a bribe, he still got it!-- was many levels of awsome. So, there were baked goods in 303 once again ( Read more... )

Hands in his pockets and quite possibly newly employed, Chad wandered down the hall, en route to returning to his room and playing a celebratory "Stairway to Heaven." And stopped dead in his tracks a moment, lifting his chin slightly, sharp nose sniffing. Was that...pie he smelled? It most certainly was. Much like a great big bear, he followed the aroma, right to the door frame of room 303; he was so lead by the scent that he didn't quite realize that he was there, but he was starting to think maybe he'd found the source.

Once Alphonse noticed the large figure appear at his door-- it was rather hard to miss, after all-- he greeted the newcomer with a polite wave, putting his devouring of a certain pie to a halt momentarily. "Hi there!"

There was a bit of a jump through Chad's shoulders as the voice brought him around. His head snapped toward it's source; he looked a little surprised. But he had located the pie, it seemed. "Oh, hi," he grunted, realizing how ridiculous he probably seemed. "...Um, sorry."

"It's all right! I don't mind having visitors. I've got pie! Would you like some?"

Chad scratched the back of his neck in a nervous sort of way, took a heavy step into the room. "If you don't mind."

He was rather hoping that this quest resulted in some pie, but he didn't really expect it. Today was just full of exciting surprises.

"We don't really have a table, so I kinda use the floor instead," Alphonse smiled a little sheepishly. "Go ahead, I don't mind at all. So, I don't think we've met yet."

The floor made sense to Chad; he liked the floor. Carefully, he sat his heaping form across from this really nice boy, although he did feel a little odd. Uncomfortable. He felt particularly large, and that was always a little awkward.

"We haven't," he said, taking some pie, and then realizing he should have offered his hand before he did so. He considered still offering his hand, but the pie made it difficult. He hoped maybe it would be okay to skip that part, considering. Pie seemed a good enough excuse. "I'm Chad."

"I'm Alphonse," he replied, grabbing another piece of the pie for himself. Alphonse didn't even realize the lack of handshake, which he didn't mind at all-- it was just a simple gesture, even if a friendly one. "I've never seen you around before, so you must be one of the new students."

"I am," Chad mummbled around the first bite of pie, which he shoveled in as he hunched his shoulders around it. His attention to not wanting to offend had him chewing and swallowing before he continued. "You're not?" he asked, convinced so in how Alphonse phrased the question. Another new person would not be concerned with having never seen other students around before. And, if they were, they might be a little loopy. Since Alphonse did not, so far, show signs of loopiness, he must be an 'old' student.

"Nah, I've been around for quite a while," Alphonse answered. "Since January."

Chad nodded, shoveling and chewing another forkful as he did so, and his mind was pretty well focused on a little happy chant of pie, pie, pie, pie for a little while, until something caught his eye for a moment. He wouldn't normally just look around someone's room, unless it were to check for potential dangers, but there was something about that slight movement...

And his suspicious was correct. That was the little, flowing whip of a kitten's tail. Chad's eyes got a little wide and the progress of his next bite was halted half-way, his mouth still a little open to recieve it. He snapped his mouth shut, set down his fork, lowered his pie to his lap. "You," he stated, stoic as stone, "have a cat."

KITTY!

"Oh!" Alphonse turned around, spotting Cuddles slowly crawling out from where ever he was hiding, staring at the stranger curiously. "I do. He's still a little tiny but I think he's grown since I got him."

Still being a little tiny meant that the cat was still extra cute. Chad stared back at the creeping kitty for a moment, dying a little inside from the adorable. A squeeing death that never touched the rocky surface.

He shifted his gaze toward Alphonse, nodding toward the kitty. "May I?"

Cuddles continued to stalk forward, slowly and carefully. He became close enough and sat, as if expecting Chad to make the next move.

"Go ahead, he doesn't bite or claw," Alphonse assured.

Chad nodded; he certainly wasn't worried about biting or clawing. He held out one of his hands, palm forward, for Cuddles. He didn't want to scare the little thing, considering the offered hand was probably big enough (and strong enough) to crush his tiny kitten head.

Hey, this was a hand. To Cuddles, hands reaching out towards him only meant one thing: Petting! He immidiately crawled under Chad's hand and mewed.
